This is a demonstration of how the secret Wolfenstein maps in the version of Doom 2 packed with Doom 3: BFG Edition are censored. Unlike previous attempts of censorship which deleted these maps entirely, the maps were retained but with heavy content edits. If you didn't watch the video: - MAP31 "Wolfenstein" has been renamed to "IDKFA" - MAP32 "Grosse" has been renamed to "Keen" - MAP31's Spear of Destiny track "Evil Incarnate" and MAP32's Wolfenstein 3D track "The Ultimate Challenge" have both been replaced by the standard Doom 2 track "DOOM" - All groups of SS Guards have been replaced by groups of Zombiemen - All swastika and Hitler-related decorative imagery have been removed from the wall textures, making the levels look quite plain. This also makes several secrets more difficult to find. - In the main wad file, most of the SS Guard sprites have been replaced with a dummy Zombieman sprite. However, the SS Guard sounds are still present. And while unrelated to the censorship, you can also see the red cross on medikits. stimpacks, and berserk packs (2:55) has been replaced by a pill graphic due to the wishes of the Red Cross. This change originated with the Xbox Live Arcade release of Doom 2 in 2010.
If I remember right, the XBLA and BFG editions of Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 run wad files through them, which means you can extract those wads and play them on source ports or so forth. For whatever reason, instead of using their original wads they ported over the XBLA version with the pills on medkits/berserk packs, and then altered it from there to censor out the Nazi imagery. This carries over to the PC version of the BFG Edition as well, which already has issues amongst a number of fans and buyers whom complain about it being a crummy console port for various reasons. EDIT: Thanks to Marphy's confirmation, the levels were intact in the original XBLA - they censored them for this re-release. Oh man not the early 90s sprites! [editline]17th October 2012[/editline] The evilness of resembling nazi germany will be our downfall!

But some people are going nuts over it, and it probably won't help the BFG Edition's already-low image.

I mean world war two was a loooooooooooooooooooooong time ago. It's not like controversial stuff in the nineties is still that way today. I seriously can't think of one guy who would be offended by that stuff nowadays.
I have the first wolfensiten on Xbox 360 and im surprised its not Censored. People just need to get over this stuff its just a game.
I've played years of Doom on many source ports, so this changes hardly matter. They have reasons for doing it, especially considering what games get accused for these days. Still gonna buy it.
As a huge Doom fan, I'm not upset. Just disappointed they did it in such a terribly lazy way. They could have made two new maps, or replaced the imagery with different decorations. Now the maps just look really ugly and out of place with no reference to anything.
I get the swastikas and the SS troops, but the music? Really?
However, judging by the phrasing of the context within the description, I think they might've cut these levels out in the XBLA version entirely
The XBLA release of Doom 2 in 2010 was not censored in any way. The Wolfenstein levels, textures, and SS Guards were left entirely intact. However, it was the first release to use the pill graphic on medikits to replace the red cross. The XBLA release of The Ultimate Doom in 2006 did not have this red cross change.
Just imagine if i let my son play on the xbox and he suddenly saw a swastika while blasting demons with a shotgun, he'd run crying to me and i would have to tell him all about Hitler and the nazis and how they were evil, things too complex and traumatizing for his little teenage mind to understand. I'm really glad they're protecting the children from this kind of dangerous material, the people who originally made it were just immoral.

At first I assumed the changes were in the XBLA wad and lazily ported over to the BFG re-release. After reading the description again, though, I realized (right after I posted this topic even) that the censorship was actually all-new here. :v:
I thought Doom 2 was unbanned in Germany.
What on earth did they do the reloading sound of the shotgun, it sounds extremely out of pitch.
