(CNN) -- The pilots of the commercial jetliner that last week overshot its destination by about 150 miles have said they were using their laptops and lost track of time and location, federal safety officials said Monday. The Airbus A320 was flying at 37,000 feet over the Denver, Colorado, area at 5:56 p.m. Wednesday when it last made radio contact, the safety board said. Northwest Flight 188 had departed San Diego en route to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport carrying 144 passengers, two pilots and three flight attendants. Northwest recently merged with Delta Air Lines. "Using laptops or engaging in activity unrelated to the pilots' command of the aircraft during flight is strictly against the airline's flight deck policies and violations of that policy will result in termination," Delta said Monday in a statement.
Great, now pilots are surfing the web on planes. I can see it now. 200 dead from pilots looking at porn on laptop. :eng99: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/10/26/airliner.flyby/index.html
Wow... Seriously. Here in Massachusetts, there have been over THREE DISASTROUS TRAIN ACCIDENTS in the past two years caused by MBTA bus and train operators texting on their cell phones while trying to operate a train. Now we've moved onto using LAPTOPS while trying to FLY PLANES? As if texting while driving a car isn't hazardous enough. :wtc:
Porn.
Porn.
I need evidence to believe it. :smug:
Well, the computer failed after all. :rimshot:
I need evidence to believe it. :smug:
You know us men and laptops.
Well there's actually a lot more time to react in a plane, plus they have autopilot capabilities
Yes, and you're putting many times more people at risk than flying a car, and the number of variables in a plane is significantly higher than in a car.

Yo dawg, I herd you like flying. So we put FSX in yo plane so yo can fly while yo fly.
Hey guys. I'm in the middle of an 8 hour flight so I thought I'd catch up on some Facepunch. Huh. My co-pilot has just informed me that this was a 2 hour flight. Shit.
You're a Retadin Stop Living
LOOOLOLOLOLOLOLO n1 m8 not really
Delta is awful My last flight was with Delta and the plane smelled like piss, they wouldn't let me take my carry-on onboard, and we came within a few hundred feet of a midair collision with another airliner
One time I was with my dad when they where removing a panel in a cockpit and they found a game boy that somehow slid into the back :raise: And yes this is the same exact airline and the same exact Airport the plane overshot
So how do you operate a train and pilot an airplane then?
With an airplane you really don't need to be focused all the time, autopilot will fly the plane and radar will beep if you are hitting something. It's that simple, only takeoff and landing are hard.
I beg to differ.
In a real life scenario, that wouldn't happen. It saddens me that these pilots, they claim are veterans. Yet they're doing the very thing that's always said before takeoff and landing, to not use electronic devices. No pilot... EVER, should be using a laptop while doing his job flying a plane. It's just as bad as texting while driving. What if they hit another plane up there?

now its gunna be no texting while flying
I beg to differ.
Such a funny film xD But yeah, facebooking and porn arn't advisable while flying a plane.
I agree, they were looking at porn.
My mum knows someone who knows a pilot or something, and apparently being a pilot is actually incredibly boring. Once the plane has taken off, they have nothing to do. The people mum knew played with R/C cars, which seems a bit odd considering that you aren't allowed to use any wireless things in the plane usually.
jordguitar's avatar fits what the pilots faces would be like right now.
