A near-complete ichthyosaur skeleton discovered on the Dorset coast after Christmas storms was hours away from destruction, fossil hunters have said.
Storms uncovered the 1.5m (5ft) fossil at the base of Black Ven near Charmouth on Boxing Day.
The giant marine reptile fossil was painstakingly removed over eight hours, shortly before another storm was due.
Professional fossil hunter Paul Crossley, who helped excavate it, said it was "a beautiful find".
"There was a very difficult, short window before another storm blew in so we were limited for time before it got ploughed out," he said.
Reminds of of that scene in Jurassic Park with the guy at the phone telling fatty "We have to go!"
The only thing I remember the name Ichtyosaur from is the shark enemy in Half-Life 1 :c

It's scary as fuck when you enter the water after you met your first Ichy.

I'm pretty sure this is an actual picture of the real Ichies.

Reminds me of that scene in Jurassic Park when Hammond arrives at the dig site and they all scramble to cover the bones with a tarp.
Where's G-man when you need him.

Not to stray off topic, but how was that? It looked a bit bland, and I'm one who enjoys live action family movies like that for ol' time's sake.
On topic: I always thought Icthyosaurs were just made up. Good to know.

The real one is less scary than the HL version:

Icky in Half-Life was scary as hell because if you played the game how it was meant to be played (OpenGL or 3dfx) the water had fog; So it basically appeared out of nowhere and disappeared into the murky soup again, only to attack from another direction.
I forgot where, but there's one place in the old maintenance/industrial area that had a ridiculous deep pool (you couldn't see the bottom and would drown before you got there) that had like 4-5 ickys in it.
-snip-
I've played several playthroughs of Half-Life, and that place never existed.

About the place, you're talking about Apprehension.
except it did exist. It was the flooded labs.

Completely off topic, but for me, the software renderer runs better and looks sharper. I prefer it to OpenGL or DirectX.

They are like dolphin crossed with chameleon.
With a sprinkle of pure nightmares.

That's odd, I never saw this part before.

To amend the words of Keanu Reeves in the first Matrix movie:
Jesus Christ those things are real?!
This reminds me of that story about a fossil that had been used as a stepping stone for livestock in a river and the fossil itself was almost intact despite being there in the open for years and years.
And funnily enough, it's another Ichtyosaur fossil! :v:

Nature came back to finish the job.

He's talking about the film, you're talking about the BBC tv series(which was brilliant)

When I saw they were making a film about it I thought "great, an amazing TV series brought to the big screen!", then the dinosaurs spoke and that thought dissipated into rage
He's talking about the film, you're talking about the BBC tv series(which was brilliant)
yo what, there was a film?
