That was announced at the end of last year though, it's been known for a while that dota 2 would be the first source 2 title.
What this means is that we'll probably see the Source 2 client (beta or not) go live real soon. Probably Tuesday or Thursday.
Yo this news is older than Keeper of the Light
Hard to believe Source 2 is announced
the big news isnt that source 2 is announced the big news is valve is about to release the first game with source 2.
the big news isnt that source 2 is announced the big news is valve is about to release the first game with source 2.
That doesn't really mean much, considering how Source 1 Dota 2 will exist alongside the Source 2 version for a while until Valve reaches a point where S2 is "stable enough" and they can transition to the new engine entirely.

Didn't Valve annonce themselves that Dota 2 will be fully ported to source 2 in 2015 tho :v:?

The tools are running on a hybrid Source 2. It's basically running on L4D2's branch (they left some particle files in the core VPKs :v:), because the community was bitching about new mod tools so they had to come up with something. It's not a proper S2 build.

Valve's presentation about physics where the testbed was shown some years ago was running on source2, as seen on the debug log in those presentations, and that was left 4 dead 2, so it might be leftovers from that.

This is more of a pre-alpha-that-the-general-public-can-mess-with, and you can easily tell how broken it is by the fact that most props and particles break during custom gamemodes, and there's a lot more going on under the hood. I'd take a screencap for you to look at but It would take ages to re-download them.
Once again, please read my Source 2 document.
OP you might as well want to create a thread announcing Michael Jackson's death
To clarify, Source 2 and Dota 2 running on Source 2 is already available via the Workshop Tools Alpha, but these new strings (and a couple found in an earlier Dota 2 update) seem to indicate that a Source 2 version of Dota 2 will be released alongside the current Source 1 version. To put this into context, the main event of Dota 2's big annual Valve-organized tourney is coming up later this Summer. At a different big tournament earlier this year the organizers already had pro players participating in a special Source 2 game mode. It is possible that Valve wants to do something similar on a bigger scale to officially release the engine with a bang, but wants to keep old Source 1 version running in case they can't fix big Source 2 bugs until the main event. Wouldn't want to screw over pro teams scrimming until the tournament, or even worse have bugs come out during the main event.
does this mean dota 2 is still in beta
does this mean dota 2 is still in beta
I wonder what would happen if Valve would clean-up all inventories when dota 2 moves on source 2 (I know it's impossible but either way i wonder) The uproar would be so high and so real v:

Might continue to affect UGC creators and any trust going into the inevitable reboot of paid mods.
They also have presentations how adding a community driven economy gives longer life for the game

Give me Source 2 SFM, then I will be happy
Will it actually be different? Something tells me the game is going to look identical judging by the pictures of dota 2 on source 2 floating about.

Basically this is going to be Warcraft III 2.0 when it comes to custom games.
it'll also be greatly optimized, so whenever the hero models are loaded your game won't stop up for like 5 seconds anymore [editline]2nd June 2015[/editline] oh yeah and vulkan
