:siren:For Educational Purposes Only!:siren: Sabotaging a Buildings Electricity by Removing the Meter Assembly In this guide I will teach you how to disable a buildings power by removing the electrical meters assembly. What you will need - Two undamaged hands - Bolt Cutters* - Scissors, wire cutters, something like those.** What you will want - Insulated gloves - Insulated/thick soled shoes (You won't be touching any life wires, but using these items is always a smart precaution. *If it has a lock on it. **If it has a tamper wire on it. ------------------------------------------ Alright, you're ready to take down your neighbors electricity for kicking your dog? Or confuse the McDonalds employees that fired you? Well, you can't just run in there. You're going to have to go over there and look for the power meter. You've probably seen lots near the back of buildings or in alleyways. Here is what they look like: Seen it before? If not, you now know! Go to your target building, look for the meter, it will usually be at the back or side, and will almost always be outside of the building. Once you've found it, look for these things: A lock If it has a lock, you're going to need either the key, or bolt cutters. If you can easily get the key, go for it. If you can't, head over to your local hardware store and buy a pair. A tamper wire These are little wires around the lock loops that indicate they have been opened. You will need to cut this if you want in. Wire cutters work best, scissors work, too. A single-bladed tool won't work well. If it doesn't have a tamper wire, then great! No one will ever know.. except when the power goes out and they find out the meter is missing. Once you are knowledgeable about your targets power meter box, you move in. Precautions - Use common sense - Don't do this in the rain. - Don't do this if the meter is wet from an earlier rain. - Don't do this while stepping on awkward terrain. - Don't do this if surrounding vegetation is wet. - Don't do this while standing in a puddle. - Don't do this in the pitch black without a flashlight. - Do this with dry hands, gloves and clothes. Moving In I bet you're wondering, "when do I strike?", well, that depends. Tampering at night greatly reduces your chance at getting caught, but sabotaging, say, a restaurant during it's busiest hour, can cause quite a commotion, especially when those automatic doors stop working, and the AC quits! After you've decided when to strike, get there. Make sure you have a quick getaway path, and no one is around. After that, cut the lock and tamper wire if necessary, and lift the box open. Grab the glass part of the meter, and tug on it with both hands. NEVER reach behind the meter to pull it out - that's where all the live wires and conductors are. Getting shocked by something from behind their could easily kill you. If the meter won't come out, jiggle it up and down. If it still doesn't come out, give up. If you keep trying you could get shocked, and it's not worth your life. The moment the meter comes out of the socket, the power will shut down. In the empty socket, there will be these thick copper tabs. Touching these will give you 220 volts of live power directly from the nearest transformer. You're pretty much toast if you decide to become the conductor for those tabs. Once your done, quickly close the meter box so no one will touch it, slide the cut lock in through the loop or lock the box if you used the key. Put the meter in a backpack or some sort of container and get the hell out of there. Observe the confusion from a adjacent street. That's all, and remember, 'be careful' is an understatement when doing this!
I already suspected this would work.

thought this thread would be about some kid trying to be a douchebag at school
Also, should dress as electrician.
pleasantly surprised [editline]11th December 2010[/editline] fuck you man, fuck you
JESUS CHRIST. This guy figured out how to break something electronic. Rate him winner.
How many times did you do this already, OP?
How many times did you do this already, OP?
I've done it twice to the same McDonalds and once to someones house. Neither had locks on them, but the McDonalds had a tamper wire. And by the way, the replacements for these thing are pretty expensive and will also cost money to get an electrician in there to install it.

I have a better idea, faster too Get some of these Cut these

Try this: edit: x 20 :saddowns:
Oh, and heres another tip for sabotaging electrical stuffs: You can render the plug of a device useless by painting it with clear nail polish. This will stop it from conducting electricity, and whatever the device is, the owner will probably just buy a new one. Try this on soda and snack machines.

In theory, if you ever did decide to do that, then I suggest you try it on snack machines.
In theory, if you ever did decide to do that, then I suggest you try it on snack machines.
Does it break and give you free food?
Does it break and give you free food?
Use this for that:
I've actually done that before, and it took them 3 days to figure out the cause.
I've actually done that before, and it took them 3 days to figure out the cause.
Ah, the McDonalds I did called BC-Hydro (I live in BC) and it only took them one day to figure out the problem and a guy came back the next day and replaced it and fitted a new tamper wire. I'm surprised they didn't get the cops involved.
What would they do if a school's electricity was sabotaged in this manner, cancel school until it's fixed? [editline]11th December 2010[/editline] for educational purposes of course [editline]11th December 2010[/editline] I'm not really pissed off at my school or anything
Mine's in a cupboard in my sister's room, not on the outside of my house.

You could, however, cut the lock during the night and replace it with a lock of your own and then take it out during class!

I was asking more like would they close school as if it were a snow day or would we do caveman school. [editline]11th December 2010[/editline] hypothetically
Depends, they probably wouldn't continue school, but you might just end up waiting outside for the day while the hydro people try to figure out what's wrong.
Thanks, now I will know "not" to do that to "my" "house"
Wouldnt a schools meter be a lot different due to the fact it eats up more power than a house or a mc donalds?
School meters usually have a digital readout rather than a dial readout.
School meters usually have a digital readout rather than a dial readout.
Aswell as certain countries, such as Australia, we're getting "smart" meters now....
