DNAinfo has the disturbing tape showing two officers catching up to 16-year-old Kahreem Tribble in Bed Stuy, just after 2 a.m. on August 29. The first cop takes a big swing at Tribble’s face and misses. As the teen backs into a security grate with his hands up, the second officer runs up, gun drawn, and smashes him in the teeth with the weapon. Once on the ground, Tribble gets hit again. Isaac was stripped of his badge and gun, while Afanador has been suspended without pay. Both have been accused twice before of a false arrest or excessive force.
It's good that the officers involved were suspended, but there really isn't anything good going on at 2am in NYC, especially for a 16 year old. Of course, that still doesn't excuse their actions.
what the fuuuck i thoroughly support the police when they do their jobs but holy shit am i glad these guys got busted
Good that the officers involved were suspended, but there really isn't anything good going on at 2am in NYC, especially for a 16 year old.
That is not an excuse for this behavior by the NYPD.
op forgot this
Tribble was charged with possession of 17 small baggies of marijuana in a small black bag — Afanador hits him in the face with it at the end — along with disorderly conduct.
doesn't excuse the cops in the slightest though. though you should probably put why they were after him in the first place.
Hence the first part of my post? I never once said it was...
Why even bring it up though?
Why even bring it up though?
Because it's relevant and in the article? Do you want me to apologize for looking at things from more than one angle when everyone else is only going to look at what the police did? Especially considering recent events?
Because it's relevant and in the article? Do you want me to apologize for looking at things from more than one angle when everyone else is only going to look at what the police did? Especially considering recent events?
Dude, the police smacked a kid around and you want to "make sure you see it from their angle too?" Like, you said you're not trying to defend the cops, but at the same time you're trying to justify it at the same time. And what do you mean "only what the police did?". That's literally the only part of the story. A cop hit a kid. He hit the kit to the ground and then hit him again. THAT'S THE STORY. YOU HAVE THE ALL OF THE ANGLES. And basically every article on this forum that has anything to do with the police doing something questionable there's already a flood of "Well if that person just did x they'd be fine" or "Nah but I'm sure the cop had a perfectly good reason for doing x" and other dismissive remarks. It's not like every FPer or news commentator are anti-police nuts. Cops are not on the same level as a kid. If you give someone power over someone and it's suspected they abused that power, you don't say "But think about the police :'c" you investigate the fuck out of them and if it's this clear they're abusing their power, you don't give them the sympathy vote and try to justify their actions, even if you think they did wrong.

I'm saying what is a 16 year old kid doing outside in NYC at 2am. It didn't have to be police that did something to him, it was the fact that he was putting himself in danger.
"Suspended" "Paid vacation" Seriously, I wish I could take my handgun and smack a kid in the mouth and get paid time off.
Why put paid vacation in quotes if it isn't anywhere in the article (which you didn't seem to read) or anyone's posts?
surprised nobody's tried justifying their actions yet. I've noticed a lot of fp has a mad boner for police. [editline]123[/editline] On another note the attitude some police officers have towards teenagers is outrageous, not every young man/woman in a hoodie is committing a crime. Even here if you're just a young person in the wrong place at the wrong time (God save your soul if you happen to be of any color other than white.) police will literally harass you verbally and even physically sometimes. Like just the other day I was riding home at night on my bike minding my own business and these cops rock up and start yelling racial slurs at me and accusing me of stealing my own bike.
"Suspended" "Paid vacation" Seriously, I wish I could take my handgun and smack a kid in the mouth and get paid time off.
God damn - try and actually look up at what police suspension means normally. It's essentially house arrest. On top of that, this is suspension without pay.
I'm not justifying what they did though, which is why I tried to make it clear twice. If not, then there ought to be no single problem with said teenager being outside.
"Suspended" "Paid vacation" Seriously, I wish I could take my handgun and smack a kid in the mouth and get paid time off.
"paid vacation" Seriously, I wish you'd look up what you're talking about instead of perpetuating a dumb myth.
Is there a single law or ordnance that prohibits a 16 year old from being outside at 2 in the morning? If not, then there ought to be no single problem with said teenager being outside.
You're not wrong - there are no laws for that and there indeed ought not to be any issues from merely being outside at a particular hour but I do not believe we live in a utopia where it would be safe to assume nothing would happen should you choose to do so. It's the same reason I try not to drive at late hours on holidays because of the higher amount of drunk drivers and tragic headlines around those times near where I live. [editline]f[/editline] Can someone please explain to me how this post is dumb so I can at least know where you're coming from? I don't think I'm being arrogant or dismissive.
"Suspended" "Paid vacation" Seriously, I wish I could take my handgun and smack a kid in the mouth and get paid time off.
Go ahead and do it. After your "paid vacation" is over, it'll be the last one you'll ever get in that field.
Your all fools, cops are in the right once again, if you watch the video, you can see the cops chase the kid into the view of the camera where the kid turned around to be confrontational with the officer, the cop couldn't see what as in his hands and the kid was showing hostility, the cop swung and missed if you actually re-watch the video a few times over you'll notice the kid dodged it, then they cornered him and shoved them to the ground. If you to run from the police and be hostile with them, your going to face the repercussions, even if it means getting your ass beat.
People are missing the fact that the kid had 17 baggies of Marijuana on him.
People are missing the fact that the kid had 17 baggies of Marijuana on him.
"well chief we pistol whipped him in the teeth but later we found out he had weed on him so that makes it okay" that is literally that you are saying right now
People are missing the fact that the kid had 17 baggies of Marijuana on him.
He could have an entire backpack filled with the stuff and it still wouldn't justify cracking someone in the teeth with your gun.
imagine feeling good about being a dea cop / violently attacking a teenager because they had drugs
I am gonna attempt evoking the ghost of Yawmen to get his credible opinion on the matter
Both have been accused twice before of a false arrest or excessive force.
and that didn't tip off their superiors that maybe these two are fucking bad at their jobs because?
"well chief we pistol whipped him in the teeth but later we found out he had weed on him so that makes it okay" that is literally that you are saying right now
But he was being confrontational, although cornering him was over the top, they were still there for a reason not just "lol kid out at 2AM better clock him".
stop victim blaming yes a teenager with drugs at 2am is probably doing illegal stuff and should probably be arrested because of that, it justifies getting your teeth smashed with a pistol after you've surrendered, and then getting kicked while you're down after you surrender?
