What is this thread?
A thread where you can discuss comic books and graphic novels. It doesn't have to be just Marvel or DC, it can be other guys too.
IDW, Dark Horse, whatever. It's all good here
Have you heard of this new manga calle-
NO.
This is NOT the place to talk about anime or manga. Seriously don't do that.
Where do I start reading comics?
My advice is to buy a trade paperback. They're a collection of a bunch of comics, usually one full story. Start with somebody easy like Deadpool or Batman.
This is a great resource for reading Marvel stuff: http://marvel.com/comics/unlimited Not sure about DC.
I personally recommend https://www.comixology.com/ It's what I use for my digital books and it has a very nice reader app for iOS and Android.
Marvel or DC?
Depends on what you want. Honestly, go look it up for yourself. This can lead into a massive debate and nobody wants that.
[sp]The answer is Marvel[/sp]

i recommend people read greg rucka's run on the punisher because it's dope as fuck
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/bSB5HGM.png[/img_thumb]
look at that. look how much more awesome the punisher is with a beard.
Just totally got into reading comics thanks to one of my friends, and I'm really digging Marvel shit.
Invincible Ironman 2008-2012 is a really good run, so I think I'll say that's my recommended reading as GotG has already been recommended in the OP.
I'm currently reading Nova 2007-2010 and it's pretty good as well.
I also think you should mention Marvel Unlimited in the OP, as it's a really good place to start if you don't have the money to buy physical copies of all the comics.

I'm trying to only keep stuff that was reprinted in a trade paperback in the op since it's easily accessible.
And I'll be sure to add Marvel Unlimited.

Also I'm currently reading

And so far it's really great.
The new Black Widow comic is pretty good too, guys. Got this neat artstyle and all that.

I have a bunch of comics I haven't read.
Dunno if I ever will.
Loki Agent of Asgard is fun too. Put aside any preconceptions you might have since it features a young, bishie Loki mostly based off the movie version of him, because it's funny and well-written.

My friend was telling me about this one yesterday.
He really liked it and he's one of those "everything is awful" kind of guys.
I'll be sure to give it a look.
hulk vs superman who wins???
The only comics I've read are the Walking Dead Series and Saga. I'm scared of touching any of the long-running superhero franchises. Which one of that kind would you recommend for a beginner?
hulk vs superman who wins???
no one, because they're both kinda boring characters (superman more so)

This has some good recommendations:
http://twocatscomicbookstore.blogspot.com/p/new-to-reading-comic-books-heres-where.html
I've been pulling MarvelNOW Punisher and Superior Foes of Spider-Man.
Punisher follows Frank as he goes to L.A. to fight drug cartels (and special surprise guests!). It's fucking awesome, tons of brutal punishing and badass lines. Also, he adopts a stray coyote and names it Loot (short for Lieutenant, how fucking adorbs is that?).
Superior Foes of Spider-Man is a strong contender for both the funniest book I've read as well as the most underrated. Basically, Shocker, Boomerang, the new Beetle, Speed Demon, and Overdrive get together and decide to form the new Sinister Six. There's only 5 of them, but this way they get to split the take 5 ways instead of 6. BRILLIANT. It's basically a book about really lame supervillains trying to pull off the big score (and failing). If that idea hasn't sold you, Overdrive's power is that he can turn any type of car into any other type of car. Also, his arch-nemesis is Hercules (whom he got revenge on by [sp]giving him the clap.[/sp][sp]If Olympians can get venereal diseases, that is.[/sp]
I used to read Posehn's Deadpool too, probably gonna get back on that too. What I read was pure gold, way better than the "TROLOLOL DUCT TAPE CHIMICHANGAS TACOS xD LE GANGAM STYLE" Deadpool we got when Daniel Way was writing it.
I'm reading the current run of Deadpool, and Hickman's Avengers and New Avengers.
If you enjoy reading mindfucking comics in which a lot of things that you don't understand but hope that they are explained to you in a future, read the Avengers and New Avengers.
Also Original Sin has just started, in which the Watcher is killed and has his eyeballs removed, so the Avengers and a bunch more of superheroes have to discover who has killed him and why.
Oh, and Chew, it's pretty good. It's about a detective who, by eating things, can know where did the thing he has eaten came from and what happened to it, and uses his power to solve crimes in a world where chicken is forbidden in the USA due to the Bird Flu, with a lot of misteries around. The current Humble Bundle has the first volume.
I should read the Superior Foes, what else am I missing from the current Marvel comics?
Fraction's Hawkeye is one of my favourite comics of recent years. It's really fun, and a good look at the crappy mundane life of Clint Barton. The art's really good too.

I've heard really good things about IDW's Ghostbusters Series.
i like rorschach

How has the Green Lantern stuff been holding up after Lights Out? I haven't gotten a change to read any after I had moved in December.
Though to be honest, after how much Lights Out sucked, I probably won't even bother reading anymore GL stuff for a while.
Since Tony Stark is an alcoholic, I always read him drunk as shit.
It makes every single Iron Man comic into the best comedy ever written.
An example (kind of): http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/linkara/at4w/37241-at4w-tales-of-suspense-39

i think i might be spoiled from reading the punisher MAX comics, god damn, the memories...
i'll probably check this out anyway though, looks cool
I've heard really good things about IDW's Ghostbusters Series.
The art style is unique, and I think it captures the feeling of the movies pretty well. It's on issue 16, I think. And the new characters aren't boring original character do not steal.
Plus, it features a lot of supporting characters from the movies, even that ginger guy from the government.
no one, because they're both kinda boring characters (superman more so)
hulk has some pretty cool story arcs though. i wouldn't know about supes because i haven't really read much from him
Comic Review: Hulk #2 (written by Mark Waid)
I'm gonna be doing those since they're fun and people keep asking for opinions, so hopefully they can help you decide on which comics to pick up.
This new Hulk series is weird. For those who don't know, issue #1 started with some people- who were thought to be SHIELD but they weren't- operating on Bruce Banner's head. Things go awry and he turns into the Hulk with his head still open. When SHIELD finds Bruce, he now has permanent brain damage and has the mentality of a four-year old.
That's all good and such, [sp]except that SHIELD now believes the person responsible for that came from the inside, and to hide Bruce, they put him on a town filled with SHIELD agents, give him a 'grandma' and 'grandpa' and change his name to Bobby. And his head is so bad, he can't even open a box on his own. And the agents are doing their best to avoid Bruce from getting angry. And to make that even worse, Abomination gets revived (or re-built) and then sent to this little town. Maria Hill makes Bruce turn into the Hulk, and the two giant beasts start duking it all out, when suddenly soldiers show up from nowhere (they literally come out of the walls) and threaten Hill.[/sp]
It has a bizarre plot, the art is not that great (especially when compared to other recent Marvel comics) and there's not that much in this issue apart from dumb Bruce and [sp]Abomination showing up and roaring and slapping Hulk around.[/sp] If you like the idea, pick it up, but if you're wary, wait until the next few issues come out to see if this plot goes somewhere.
This isn't Marvel/DC, but it isn't manga either, so i'll share a one of my #1 favorites:

Brandon Graham's King City is a weird little gem: Its about a travelling lockpick-wizard and his weaponsed cat returning to his home city, and facing some old demons causing shit around the place, both literal and metaphoric. i thoroughly enjoy its highly detailed 'graffiti' art-style, kooky sci-fi setting and sense of humour. Fans of the game Jet Set Radio would probably really enjoy its artstyle.
My little summary probably doesn't do it much justice, so i'd highly recommend just having a little look into it.
hulk has some pretty cool story arcs though. i wouldn't know about supes because i haven't really read much from him
i would agree that hulk's got some cool story arcs but i could never get into them as much as others. superman has always just been so fuckin' boring to me though
Added a few things to the op and made it look a little nicer.

Why the fuck does the edit button not work. The space to enter stuff goes completely blank when I hit it, so I have to save the op in a txt file.
