CANNABIS and some “club drugs” could be legalised in a Home Office shake-up of drugs policy proposed by Liberal Democrat ministers. In a move that threatens a clash with Theresa May, the home secretary, the Lib Dem ministers want a dramatic relaxation of the law after concluding that the government is losing the war on illegal substances. A review ordered by Nick Clegg, the deputy prime minister, and due to be published before Christmas, is expected to suggest Britain could benefit from emulating two American states where the use of recreational cannabis is legal. The Home Office report is also expected to call for the introduction of heroin “shooting galleries” where hardcore addicts are given the drug on prescription in an attempt to reduce crime; and a new approach to club drugs. However, the recommendations are expected to set off a bitter coalition row, with May resisting any significant changes.
Source: http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/uk_news/article1326954.ece Something tells me Ms May will just continue to flatly oppose any change that might cause controversy due to her 'blind faith' prohibitionist doctrine. [editline]13th October 2013[/editline] Apologies for the paywall [editline]13th October 2013[/editline] I will add another source when one becomes available
the only reason prohibition still exists is because certain people and industries profit greatly from it, and the government can never ever admit when it's wrong.
the only reason prohibition still exists is because certain people and industries profit greatly from it, and the government can never ever admit when it's wrong.
Theresa May is basically a bastion of ignorance, stubbornness and conservatism, who's ignored multiple studies and their recommendations on drug policy. It kind of fits in with the fact that everyone in education agrees that the education minister is a fucking idiot, everyone in the healthcare system hates the health minister for good reasons and the fact that the environment minister is a climate change sceptic.
This needs to be a thing, and if May tries to block, we shove her in the freezer until we can get her brain fixed.
hoping they'll keep it illegal, tbh the first thing they'll do when it becomes legal is put an obscene tax on it, and keep on putting home-growers and dealers in prison.
Well hopefully one of the motivations behind legalising would be to provide a better deal than the black market leading to it's gradual decline and the rise of a properly regulated market. Although taxation would be likely hopefully it wouldn't be so obscene that it would drive people back into the underground. Ideally home growing would become a hobbyist thing and not need policing as it would be far cheaper and more convenient to obtain a given substance from a regulated dispensary location. But knowing the UK government I doubt they could carry that off...
Seems like the lib dems are fishing for votes in a late demographic quite early on, maybe Nick Clegg is pushing in where Milliband hasn't in terms of the electorate?
heroin “shooting galleries” where hardcore addicts are given the drug
I can't be the only person to find this funny.
To put this into context Theresa May could be pushing to be the new tory leader if Cameron loses [editline]13th October 2013[/editline] This is what I get
lol Theresa May as a leader
I struggle to picture Theresa May as anyone other than Hyacinth Bucket
She'd be the next goddamn Thatcher if that happened. That bitch was bad enough as a milk-snatcher and mine-closer, and David Cameron raised the uni fees, so god only knows what unspeakable horrors Theresa May could unleash upon our universe.
She'd basically implement all policies only if they had Daily Mail approval
Something I'd hope to try one day but I prefer doing my drugs the legal way, so until something more promising than a review comes along it's going to be some hardcore tesco value vodka sipping instead of tripping on lsd whilst watching dr who this christmas.
lol Theresa May as a leader
It's her or Boris. Quite frankly I would gladly vote Boris, seems like he'd be the jokester of the UN
It's her or Boris. Quite frankly I would gladly vote Boris, seems like he'd be the jokester of the UN
They are all shite. I'd rather go down laughing.
It's her or Boris. Quite frankly I would gladly vote Boris, seems like he'd be the jokester of the UN
Boris maybe in the short term, but I'd put my money on Adam Afriyie or Sajid Javid as the real future Conservative leaders For the record I don't like any of them.
She'd be the next goddamn Thatcher if that happened. Also I was under the impression that it was Labour who backed and commissioned a review into raising uni fees?
To put this into context Theresa May could be pushing to be the new tory leader if Cameron loses [editline]13th October 2013[/editline] This is what I get
I can't imagine that woman being anything but a living joke
boris
There's no denying it : I wouldn't like to trust him in power. But he does have character, something Mrs May lacks - and how many people better than him are there? He may be a bit of a fool, but he's definitely the lesser of the evils.
Thing with Boris is, it's just a massive act. How do you know about him? He's a buffoon, that's why. Do you think the Conservatives would really let him get any power as just simply a buffoon? A question to everyone, does anyone know what he stands for excluding his generic "Safer London"? The thing with Boris is he's got the image, but in the end he's just a puppet for the conservatives to gain votes. Seriously just ask anyone about Boris Johnson, I will assure you that they will only know that he's an 'idiot'.
Boris Johnson went to Oxford University, known for it's high proportion of idiots.
Boris maybe in the short term, but I'd put my money on Adam Afriyie or Sajid Javid as the real future Conservative leaders For the record I don't like any of them
But they have vaguely foreign sounding names. Mail readers would be rendered unconscious by the choice between foreigners "scrounging off their tax money" and labour! :v:
All Im asking is for fucking walk-in drug testing labs such as the ones in Holland. Give me one good reason, Mrs May, why you cant do that.
Probably because she couldn't give fuck about the welfare of people who choose to use drugs and foolishly believes that leaving it as it is "sends the right message" (eughhhhhhh!) and acts as a deterrent of some kind. She doesn't actually want to help people she wants them to fucking suffer for their choice of recreational substance.
I think the way drugs are handled right now is pretty poor.
Seems like the lib dems are fishing for votes in a late demographic quite early on, maybe Nick Clegg is pushing in where Milliband hasn't in terms of the electorate?
If Clegg shot himself their approval rating would skyrocket.
if you cant't beat drugs then do em I guess
A lot of politicians in power went to Oxford. I'm saying that Boris is smart, and the conservatives are smart are having him. He forcefully acts like a plonker so people find him funny and enjoy him being around - if anything it's just a ruse to get the conservatives a little bit more power. Just remember, he isn't jut a random bumbling buffoon who's a common man, he's millionaire, ex Eton, was in the Bullingdon Club, is a fan of fox hunting and generally supports the ultra wealthy. Yes, I know I sound like a dodgy marxist conspiracy theorist, but if he really was how he acted all the time, I don't think the conservatives would let him have much power.
You''ve pretty much hit the nail on the head. He's pretty damn smart, and very good at playing the buffoon card, but it is most certainly an act and well managed PR move. He's a very stereotypical conservative at heart, he voted for anti-gay legislation in the past, denounced all Islam as a religion of hate several years back (and flip flopped 3 years later to saying it's not), was pro fox hunting and the other kinds of things you'd expect. The only non-expected thing is that he is actually pro-marijuana legalisation, and admits he has smoked it in the past. Still, one good thing hardly makes up for the rest. I wouldn't vote for him. His act is funny, but I don't really want someone with his views in power.
if you cant't beat drugs then do em I guess
Or at least let others do them safely from a regulated source without fear of punishment so long as they are not harming other people
