No english source, but this is to absurd not to share http://www.faz.net/aktuell/keine-ermittlungen-gegen-goettinger-salafisten-14888862.html
There has not yet been a similar police operation in Göttingen: In an anti-terror raid, 450 officials, including many special forces, raid a dozen homes on the morning of February 9th. The officials arrested two terror suspects, they seized weapons, ammunition and flags of the terrorist organization Islamic state. A little later, police president Uwe Lührig and his dispatcher announced to cameras that the two men in custody had planned a terrorist attack. The police received applause from all sides. Jürgen Trittin, a member of the Green Party of the Greens, also described the action against the Salafian threat as an example of good police work. Lower Saxony's Interior Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) ordered the deportation of the 22-year-old Nigerian citizen and the 27-year-old Algerian citizen at the end of last week. Both came from long-term detention into custody prior deportation. And then this: the general public prosecutor's office in Celle, which is responsible for terrorism cases in Lower Saxony, does not provide sufficient grounds for criminal investigations against the members of the radical Islamist scene who have been arrested under suspicion of terror. The men would have discussed plans, said author Bernd Kolkmeier. However, as they had not yet decided on a specific criminal offense, the initial suspicion "on the preparation of a serious criminal offense" could not be justified according to the current evidence. This was first reported by the "Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung". In investigative circles, the decision was a source of surprise. According to the police, the preparations for a terrorist act were so far advanced that an attack could have been carried out at any time. According to police president Lührig, the offenders had considered a major offense "analogous to the attack in Berlin". There, an Islamic terrorist killed 12 people on 19 December with a truck and more than 50 were seriously injured. As an alternative, the terror suspects of Göttingen were also discussing the opportunity to kill policemen. The investigation of the documents and evidence submitted by the police had shown that the men had made precautionary measures for an attack, said Oberstaatsanwalt Kolkmeier. "You've discussed what you could do, and you have several options," Kolkmeier said. "The point was either to carry out an attack here or to travel to Syria and participate in fighting campaigns there." For criminal investigations, however, they should have decided on a concrete offense. The decision of the General Prosecutor's Office also does not alter the deportation order of Minister of Interior Pistorius, said Minister of Justice Matthias Eichler. Pistorius had ordered deportation under the residence law. "This is about the defense against a special threat to the security of the Federal Republic of Germany or a terrorist threat," explained Eichler. The right to avert threats is to prevent harmful events. On the other hand, penal law sanctions criminal acts already committed. The two suspects born in Germany can apply for legal protection against the deportation order at the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig. The 27-year-old Algerian has done so. When the court decides on the case, is still open, said a court spokeswoman.
I'm sorry but this is bullshit. We clearly have means, we clearly have a motive, but that's somehow not enough to bring criminal charges against these scum?

They don't have enough evidence to build a case around it to bust them for being involved in a possible terror attack. However, they still caught them with their pants dropped and they will still prosecute them for the illegal guns and other crimes and it will add up to deportation and imprisonment, however they have nothing in their hands to tie them to the planned terror attack.

Rule of law is nice n all but sometimes you gotta smack a bitch IMO IS flag + weapons should be considered worse than just having weapons. Also is that a flint lock in the picture in op? Thats some 4 lions shit
IMO IS flag + weapons should be considered worse than just having weapons.
There could be some legal ground for this since the flag is part of the StGB §86a (alongside with various nazi symbols) as banned symbols.

pretty fucking scary how you keep hearing about these monthly raids where they find more terrorists and more guns, i would be terrified if i still lived in germany
actually it's not scary, it's good since intelligence is doing their job properly
actually it's not scary, it's good since intelligence is doing their job properly
intelligence doesn't work 100% of the time, just look at the bombings and attacks that actually were succesful. german intelligence does seem to be much more effective than the rest but i wonder when one of these terror cells will slip through the cracks, just like in france and yes it is scary knowing that these people are in the same country as you and would brutally murder you if given the chance

The perps had been under surveillance for a while so they hadn't slipped through the net, rather the intelligence agencies had chosen not to act, perhaps hoping to discover more cells thinking that that cell wouldn't act. I think this raid (happening before any plans for attack were discovered) shows intelligence/police are taking a far more proactive approach now, so I think lessons were learned. Some will slip through the gaps but hopefully these raids will get rid of the big groups with the resources/equipment to do attacks. For stuff like the asshole in nice I'm not sure what could be done since it was a lone wolf style type thing. Maybe identify people who are vulnerable to radicalisation/nutty stuff and find ways to ensure they don't do bad stuff
It's hard to see but I think it's a sawn off shotgun
95% sure it's a flintlock. And that AR15 is an airsoft, it even got the fuckin' AC charger in the box next to it :v:
It's hard to see but I think it's a sawn off shotgun
No, definitely a flint lock. Someone who is illegally making a sawn of shotgun isn't going to invest the time into making a brass pommel for it. Seems like these guys were just trying to get their hands on whatever they could. Probably why they were still in the "planning" phase.
