The Israeli Health Ministry on Sunday reported that three diagnosed cases of West Nile Virus, a mosquito-borne disease, were recorded in Israel over the course of last month.
Up until the July cases, the total number of patients suffering from the virus since the start of the year was at 15, with two of them being diagnosed cases and the remaining 13 suspected as being the virus.
The cases stretched through a region from the Haifa and Afula area in the north of the country, to the Ashkelon region in the south, and were reported in 12 different communities. In the central Gush Dan coastal region, six patients suffering from the virus have been reported up till now.
While most people infected with the virus either experience no symptoms or only minor ones, such as a fever or mild headache, the virus is life-threatening to some, and can develop into an inflammation of the brain. Severe symptoms, such as a severe headache, fever or disorientation, require immediate attention.
In 2013, 71 cases of the virus were reported in Israel; four of those infected passed away from the disease. Likewise in 2012 out of a total of 89 cases, two patients passed away.
Let's just glass the forum and get it over with
Fun fact: About 10% of Europeans have the CCR5Δ32 mutation which strongly increases the infection risk for this disease.
On the flip side, the 1% that have two mutated copies are resistant to most HIV strains (and apparently smallpox, though that's not an issue any more).
Conclusion: We all have 2 weeks to live.
My parents work in our local hospital here in Indiana and there already have been 6 cases of west nile in my small town this year, but they are just fine now. We live near a wetland and it's known that the mosquito often carry west nile around here. Nobody is worried.
Is this unusual in that area? I've never known west nile to be a big issue, it's pretty common come summer here in Connecticut and I've never known anyone here to really make a big deal over it.
Israel commits to exterminating West [del]Bank[/del] Nile Virus
According to Ynet:
2014: 2 confirmed, 13 suspected- 15 cases in total.
2013: 71 cases, 4 dead.
2012: 89 cases, 2 dead.
I am getting this information from a Hebrew Ynet article, which is echoing the information that the health office of Israel has at hand. The article was posted at August 11.
According to the article, sometimes, symptoms are null. But in other cases they might involve an Influenza-like illness that passes eventually. Others include fever, headache, weakness, joint and muscle pain, eye conjunctivitis, rash and sometimes nausea and diarrhea.

I'm not seeing or hearing it mentioned in mainstream Israeli media, so I'm guessing it's not a big deal.
Israelnationalnews.com (Arutz Sheva) is kind of a crap news source, as mentioned here before.

Here you go. This has been mostly under the radar because of Protective Edge.

Yeah. I missed that.
It's interesting that this article simply states that "The Health Ministry reports that this July three people have been diagnosed with the fever, which implies the infection season has started."
So it's a yearly thing, not an epidemic like the OP quote implies.
On a completely unrelated note, here's a picture of a pirate ninja riding a mecha dinosaur I made once, because your name reminded me.

jew sorcery?
oh god, west nile east of the nile! who would have guessed!!!!
a post was here
It's funny you mention dinosaurs and robots because you see, I watched Pacific Rim the other day, which involves exactly the former elements.
In this case it's really a computer with an Epidemic flash game session that someone forgot to turn off for a couple of years and did a very poor job at designing the virus.

Imagine a world without USB flash drives for a second.

I got banned for a day for using that source thanks to Starpluck so unless OP can delete this topic, he's fucked.

People would just use mini-dvd-RWs for small re writable data transfer.

SD cards. Online storage.
So when are the floods and swarms of insects happening
SD cards. Online storage.
Might as well use pigeons for transferring papyruses of binary.
To be honest, A USB stick is the most reliable form of storage available. Combine it with online storage and you don't need to worry about people corrupting your data or your precious essay. You can also combine it with not yanking it seconds before the upload is completed.

wouldn't ninja pirates be an oxymoron?
wouldn't ninja pirates be an oxymoron?
The trope actually originated I believe from the Dr. McNinja webcomic.
Oh my goodness! They've come back! As ninja pirate robot monkey clown bandito werewolf zombies!
The consequent oxymorons usually are disregarded if they follow the rule of cool just enough.

Ninjas on a ship.
I might be wrong but West Nile virus sounds like the kind of illness that's really bad when you get it while living in a mud hut with no infrastructure and where inability to work means starvation, but isn't that big of a deal as long as you can have somebody keep you nice clean hydrated and stuff.

A lot of people know that the USB flash drives were invented in Israel by M-Systems. You may not be aware that flash memory itself (specifically the Floating Gate EEPROM) was invented by Dr. Eli Harari, an Israeli, who went of to fund SanDisk Corporation eith Sanjay Mehrotra.
SanDisk, while an American corporation, has major R&D centers in Israel including the former M-Systems that are responsible for the development and improvement of a lot of common flash technologies (iNAND, SD, etc.). They're also one of the very few companies that actually manufactures flash memory.
Also they pay me on a monthly basis.
