Thousands of youth turned up at the Vancouver Art Gallery today to celebrate '420' -- an annual celebration of cannabis culture and a day to protest for the legalization of marijuana in cities across Canada and the United states. With the federal election less than two weeks away, this year's 420 celebrations are somewhat different across Canada, taking on a more resolute political tone than they have in the past. At 420 rallies, the message that many youth are trying to get across is to vote Prime Minister Harper out of Parliament. "Canada used to be very tolerant, progressive, people looked to us as a model of what we could do with drug policies, but Harper wants to reverse that," said Jodie Emery, wife of imprisoned marijuana activist Marc Emery, at the Vancouver Art Gallery where thousands of young marijuana smokers gathered Wednesday. Hundreds of students at the University of British Columbia also took advantage of the mass student gathering to mobilize the youth vote for May 2. They formed a vote mob -- a popular new strategy that has become viral across university campuses -- to increase youth voter turnout. "Last time the turnout was only 37 per cent, which was half of what older age ranges were, so I think it's really important we get out to exercise our right to vote," said Tamara Mackay-Temesy, a UBC student. Unlike at the 420 rally, these students are non-partisan, making sure students know it doesn't matter who they vote for, as long as they vote. Students are also concerned that most politicians don't care about the issues that affect them. "Things like tuition, student loans, the economy, whether they'll get a job when they graduate, high cost of living, the environment," said Mary Leong, who organized the vote mob at UBC. 420 and vote mob organizers alike hope that when the smoke clears, youth will remember to not only vote, but to really think about who they are voting for.
**SOURCE** I was there. Shit was intense. :420:

Come on Canada! I don't even envy you anymore and I'm a liberal American in South Carolina.
The more people try to get cannabis legalized the less I support them.
Today was the first time on "420" day that I didn't hear someone mention it in school, this makes me happy. Youth gathering in Vancouver doesn't surprise me either.
The more people try to get cannabis legalized the less I support them.
Everything becomes shit when in the hands of millions anyways.
The more people try to get cannabis legalized the less I support them.
Uhh, what's your reasoning behind that?
I hate this 420 event I don't hate cannabis, I fucking despise stoners though. I regard them with the same contempt as drinkers.
I hate this 420 event I don't hate cannabis, I fucking despise stoners though. I regard them with the same contempt as drinkers.
Do you generalize everyone?
Do you generalize everyone?
it's easier too generalize for some then too point their hatred at a specific person.
it's easier too generalize for some then too point their hatred at a specific person.
I hate Ted Danson.
I hate this 420 event I don't hate cannabis, I fucking despise stoners though. I regard them with the same contempt as drinkers.
Grrr you put a substance into your body that I don't grrr you're inferior to me grrr

I honestly have no problem with 4/20, no fucking way I'd ever join in but it's not hurting me so I don't mind.
Happy birthday adolf hitler -always will be my favorite GENOCIDER
420 Kill jews all day every day also stoner culture has made some damn good music so I can't fault them much for that
Grrr you put a substance into your body that I don't grrr you're inferior to me grrr
I don't hate cannabis and now you're telling me that I hate people for putting something in their body? I despise stoners for their culture and lifestyle in a general fashion with what you see with most stoners, yes a stereotype but not completely unfounded. If I told you I also despised alcoholics would it make a difference to you? Or would I still be that man who hates people for putting substances into their body?

God I hate weed and I hate being around people who are smoking it. Seriously, all it is is a drug you don't need a fucking holiday for it. I'm sick of everybody bragging and talking about it all the goddamn day, one of my best friends became a stoner and he became completely stupid and he was pretty much annexed from my group of friends I'm in. I'm glad it's illegal, and it should stay that way. If you get caught that's your fault.
Big fucking whoop, 420 rallies haven't been real news in years. I'm sure there was one at least this large in downtown Toronto today too, and probably ones in Halifax, Montreal, and Edmonton.
I hate this 420 event I don't hate cannabis, I fucking despise stoners though. I regard them with the same contempt as drinkers.
You put it better than I did.
Marijuana has medicinal purposes. It shouldn't be abused by pompous teenage pricks who buy it with their parent's money.
i wish fat girls were illegal, i hate looking at fat girls
What? No I am saying that people are annoying as shit when they are high and I am glad the drug is illegal. What are you trying to say about my opinion?
