A woman has been pulled alive from the ruins of a building that collapsed in a suburb of Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka, 17 days ago.
The head of the fire service earlier said the woman, named Reshma, had been found in the remains of the second floor of the eight-storey Rana Plaza.
She had no serious injuries and had been talking with rescuers, he added.
The dramatic news came after the army said more than 1,000 people were now known to have died in the disaster.
As fragile as we are, sometimes stories like this come forward that make you wonder just how in the name of fuck she's still alive.

Probably drank her own pee and ate whatever was available.

Drinking your own pee would result in worse dehydration more often than not. Generally comes down to just how well hydrated you were.

Take it this way, we are one of the strongest, most durable species with one of the best staminas in the animal world. Sure there's species that are better in some things. But we do have a lot of advantages which makes us an amazing apex predator even without the sheer amount of intelligence we have.

But some people managed to live on pee.
It all depends on how you drink it.
But Bear grylls can teach you how.
That's 1/100th of my entire city. I can't imagine such a dense population concentration in an eight story building.
For comparison, the 9/11 attacks had 2996 deaths according to wikipedia. That was an attack, a planned event.
This was an accident and 1/3 as many people have been confirmed dead with the number rising every hour.
Holy shit.
Picture of the woman in question.

If you go to the source theirs even a video of Bangladesh Army carrying her.

The entire population of my home town was 980 when I left. I can't imagine, just the equivalent of an entire town wiped out.
I want to quote the Pope for a second
A headline that really struck me on the day of the tragedy in Bangladesh was 'Living on 38 euros a month'. That is what the people who died were being paid. This is called slave labour. Today in the world this slavery is being committed against something beautiful that God has given us – the capacity to create, to work, to have dignity. How many brothers and sisters find themselves in this situation! Not paying fairly, not giving a job because you are only looking at balance sheets, only looking at how to make a profit. That goes against God!
he really does have a point here, this is really fucking shameful
Does anybody have a picture of how the entire building looked like pre-collapse?
Because one thousand people is a fucking lot.

She looks much better than i would thought she would after being trapped under rubble for 17 days
I have no idea if she ate or drank anything. But going long with out food and water really puts a strain on your body. I'd be worried about dieing from malnutrition.

She must have drunk something...
I wonder how many people were trapped and slowly died from dehydration before they were dug out
How do you survive under all that rubble? I can't just imagine classifying a section of debris as the eighth floor, another as the seventh, the sixth, etc...
The human body's survival chances surprises me sometimes. It can die so simply sometimes and even then it can also outlive and survive the toughest situation. Like that hindu soldier that got pelted with a ridiculous amount of machinegun fire and took a hill and got out alive and shit.

Flags are back in? I'm not from Argentina... :v:
Hundreds of circumstances could have flipped to be either lethal or protective to her body. It's amazing that enough of them protected her in a pocket of rubble and she had the means to survive.

1/100th? In my town, it'd be 1/6th of the entire population dead from this collapse.

Well someone's got to be the 1 in a thousand

They're probably living in utter shit, but to say 38 euros is being paid utter shit may not be necessarily true. By a person in a developed country it is utter shit. For someone in a developing nation 38 euros a month could be relatively well off compared to their peers.
Once a baby survived drinking the blood of his mother when his mother got killed in a building collapse and got trapped with him.

She looks good for being trapped in rubble for two and a half weeks.

They probably removed a lot of dirt before that picture was taken...
When the building collapsed, I'm amazed she didn't suffocate by the amount of dirt that would have been expelled. :(
They probably removed a lot of dirt before that picture was taken...
I mean she's not a bloody, red-eyed, bruised, sleep-deprived, starved mess with shredded clothes.

We're not an amazing apex predator whatsoever, the only reason we are where we are is 3 things. 1. Being able to walk Upright. 2. Our capacity for intelligence and most importantly, 3. our ability to create and wield tools. If we couldnt create or wield tools, we'd be fucked.

Just 10,000 years ago - with our intelligence and the tools of the time taken into our consideration, wolves were still Earth's most successful apex predators. :v:
It said in the newspaper today that she was trapped in a room that had some food and water in it.

Holy crap, the pope has stepped up his game.
Sounds silly but someone should invent a giant industrial debris vacuum, it would help so much in this situation.
Does anyone else find it weird that no one heard anything about this before this woman was found?
