] The professor, who teaches at Umeå University in northern Sweden, was devastated when ten years of work stored on his laptop was stolen. But to his surprise, a week after the theft, the entire contents of his laptop were posted to him on a USB stick. "I am very happy," the unnamed professor told the local Västerbottens-Kuriren newspaper. "This story makes me feel hope for humanity." The professor left his bag, containing the laptop, hidden behind a door in his apartment stairwell while he went into the building's laundry room. When he emerged a short time later, the bag had gone. It was returned shortly after, without the laptop. "The backpack was there again. With all the papers, calendar and credit cards. It was just the computer that was missing," he said. "Unfortunately, I have been bad at backing up my computer." However, a week after the theft, the professor received a USB stick containing all the documents - which would have taken several hours to download. "It is my life. I have documented everything in it that has happened in the last 10 years and beyond. "Often when people lose their computers and cameras, it is understandably not the gadget itself that is the most important. The content is often irreplaceable."
Source Now, thats very generous. He may not get the laptop back, but he sure got a decades worth of his work back. Fair enough for anybody.
His 10 years of tranny porn storage was given back! I love humanity :3:
10 years worth of data and he didn't back it up? Either you're waiting for the catastrophy to happen or you're an idiot.
"This story makes me feel hope for humanity."
But he still stole his laptop, he makes it sound like the theif didn't do anything wrong. I would like to think that the thief was very low on money and did it to feed his starving family or something though.
They ate the laptop?
Sucks that his laptop got stolen but he's a professor so he probably makes plenty to replace it, it's the data that matters in his case.
Possibly, I was thinking more along the lines of he sold it to get money. and then they ate the money obviously.
They ate the laptop?
I'd never eat a laptop, there's too much FAT32.
I'd never eat a laptop, there's too much FAT32.
we need a bad pun rating [editline]19th October 2010[/editline] even a "computer chips" joke would have been better
I'd never eat a laptop, there's too much FAT32.
But most laptops use NTFS, FAT32 is mostly used for USB's anway
we need a bad pun rating [editline]19th October 2010[/editline] even a "computer chips" joke would have been better
The computer chips have too much FAT32 :v:
Nice to know that the thief has a bit of compassion for the professor. I think that any other thief wouldn't give back the work nor the credit cards nor the bag.
I'd never eat a laptop, there's too much FAT32.
pffhahaha brilliant
The computer chips have too much FAT32 :v:
Chips challenge contains too much FAT16

Also the owner of the laptop is a complete idiot. And how would 10 years of supposedly documenting everything in your life fit on a USB stick?

[editline]19th October 2010[/editline] And most of it was probably microsoft office documents or similar things.

You would be amazed on how much shit you can stick on these things. I see them being the new 'media standard' in my honest opinion.
gentlemen thief. still a thief so whatever at least he wasn't a complete dick and gave the data back
Patriot memory manafactures 128 gb flash drives. [editline]19th October 2010[/editline] http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220406&cm_re=128gb-_-20-220-406-_-Product

Especially considering the guy is a thief.
10 years of data is fucking more worth than a laptop.

What did he lose? His linux distros? Damn Swedes!

When i was at college, it was quite common for people to leave there USB sticks in the computer and well it was allways fair game by most people to take them and keep them, but when i did it i allways zipped the contents and left it on there just incase the person came back to get it or if i found out who's it was.
