I miss Jade's simplicity of character design.
The space monkey is neat but I don't like him as a character.
I would love for it to be on Switch but judging by the graphics quality it will probably be too much for it.

It's a Ubisoft game it's pretty much guaranteed to not look anything like the footage we've seen so far when it actually comes out.

He said you can create your own character, whatever that'll amount to.

But this is Michel Ancel from the OG French team that barely ever releases anything.
I like the transparency of development and focus on technical framework, Michel seems to understand the importance of careful planning in case of ambitious project like that
The whole No Man's Sky approach to the tech already makes me wary of it. It's cool as fuck, but I can't help but be worried by games that have this sort of tech.
Either it's going to be in development hell for a long time, or it'll come out lacking content at first with more being patched in later. Neither is really preferred, especially with Vivendi hot on Ubisoft's ass.
I do hope the best for it though. Michel seems like a very down to earth person, and is being pretty transparent so far, so that gives me some faith.
Did they say anything about the physical scope of the game? I skipped through to see the cool bits. Like how large of a space can you explore?'
That's probably where the game will live or die.
He was going 9 times the speed of sound when he flew over that city. :D
I'm just going to say, i am very skeptical of open-world games now that are so massive. It seems like big empty spaces. Hopefully they can fill it with meaningful content. :/

One of the first things he pointed out in his own run-down of the E3 trailer was open worlds need all the little details as well as bigger ones.

Just a solar system but not stated how many planets there will be.
I would just like a universe with 6-7 big planets that are just handcrafted so that they are all interesting and not potentially buggy messes.
And fuck me, add a expansion pack or DLC with another planet for a few bucks with more content on it and i would happily throw it at you. Scatter some unmapped tiny planets as well so you can reward the true space explorers as well.
so what's gonna be this games radio towers/eagle points/access boxes/tower ruins?

Perfect.
What use is there for this massive open space? Outside of the city it's probably going to completely empty.
I'm sceptical to say the least.
Oh no it's no mans sky

Exactly what I wanted to hear. That's an actually achievable scope.
I feel like they shouldve made this its own IP instead of a tie-in with beyond good and evil.

Why ? It's a direct prequel with Jade's parents involved. Original BGAE starts in the middle of the story, you hear about some events that happened before, so it makes sense to explore what her parents and her uncle were doing, how they met, how the war started and how they ended up with an orphanage. Plus exploring different planets and space travel is the ORIGINAL design that had to be scraped because they didn't have the tech for it, so this is more than just a prequel, it's what the original game was supposed to be.
So even though BGAE ended with a cliffhanger, I feel like they have more story material and freedom in a prequel, than a sequel.
I may buy a Ubisoft for the first time since the first good and evil.
May.
And before anyone asks Blood Dragon was played on a friend's system.

That's pretty much what he's planning from what I can tell.
It looks like a considerably upscaled and more ambitious version of BGE's endgame.

I think it's great to be honest. We're heading to a time where you don't need a skybox anymore and can render an entire solar system in real time. We will be able to travel to different planets without a loading screen or a cutscene and I think that's cool as fuck. Of course there are going to be empty spaces but just look at the speed of the ship. You won't have to travel for too long to get to those cities and if they put a lot of good content in those cities, I have nothing against this.
This will be a hand crafted solar system and not a procedural generated universe.

I can appreciate the technology behind it, but how does it affect gameplay (positively)? The only games that ever managed to have such huge worlds and also fun gameplay were those where the player creates the content i.e. base building like Factorio or creative games like Minecraft, never story driven games. Would GTA V be better if the world was 1000x larger? (hint: no)
I'm really hoping I'm wrong though.

I'd argue that GTA has a fuckton of filler even at it's scale. That's my biggest problem with open world games. The experience has to feel real right, or else it is going to bebrepetitive
I think there's good reason to be skeptical and vary of this due to its apparent scope, but I think it's unfair to compare it to No Man's Sky. Notice that this video actually shows the features like how the physics of the planets are simulated. That's exactly what Sean Murray never did for NMS.
Certainly setting the bar of expectation really high. I've never played the first, but the ambitious ideas going into the game has me psyched. At the same time, it's hard to get hyped about any game without a degree of skepticism, these days.
