The digital reproduction of Port Moody Secondary School was designed for Counterstrike, a video game in which players use automatic assault rifles to shoot at enemy forces. Counterstrike allows users to customize the game by designing their own scenarios or scenes called "maps" to share with others.

On Thursday night, some Port Moody residents told CBC News they were outraged and upset, especially in light of recent incidents of gun violence in schools. But one man, who claims to be one of the developers, said he believed gamers were "sufficiently mature to realize that the degree of freedom allotted to you in the virtual realm do not extend to your rights in reality." His comments were published on his website, where he also responded to many of CBC's questions.
**VIDEO IN SOURCE** That's a pretty nice map.
"a videogame in which players use automatic assault rifles to shoot at enemy forces" fucking rofl when the fuck are people going to get over assault rifles of course there's no worry over the pistols, grenades, sniper rifles, shotguns, light machine guns, or SMGs just the baby-killing cop-murdering assault rifles
Ah snip it - bad reading
That's pretty neat looking. Looks a bit cartoony though? When I make maps I tend to do areas I've been to. It's good practice. [editline]22nd March 2013[/editline] Also I recognize the music in the background of the video. Anyone know what it is?

As i said in a thread a while ago. Why does it matter that it is in a game? Let alone replicated on a map in a virtual world. No one bitches and complains when well-known public areas are in action movies and getting blown up. This just goes back to people pointing the finger and wanting to blame video games for societies issues. People need to wake up and realize that video games are a billion dollar industry and pretty much the most popular form of entertainment EVER. Billions of people play video games or have played one in their life. People don't go on shooting sprees because of video games.
I always wanted to make my highschool into a CS map but I never got around to it
Never recreate places from your memory. Always imagine new places.
Well, I meant specifically for brush-practice. I still make stuff from scratch, but I meant generally when I just want to practice brushwork. I do the same with 3D models.
It was a quote from Inception.

He was trying to make an inception reference :v:
...Oh. :suicide: I haven't watched inception since it was released so I don't remember a lot of it. Sorry.
yes, because of a map in counter strike people will now go shoot up that school
I love how the article writes about the map as if Valve themselves tried to develop a "Port Moody School" map, and enlisted students to do the mapping. It's so heavily implied it's hilarious. Also this looks like an awesome map. If only there wasn't so much public backlash for using schools and other institutions as Counter-Strike maps. [editline]22nd March 2013[/editline] Like imagine a bomb defusal mission in a school map. The T's would have to plant the bomb in the cafeteria kitchen where the school mystery meat is (when that shit blows, it's nuclear man)
Port Moody Police say they were notified about the video by school officials and interviewed those responsible. "Although the creation of such a video game is likely ill-conceived in the current climate, it does not constitute an offence," a statement released by the Port Moody Police Department on Friday morning said. "Investigators from the Port Moody Police Department have interviewed the developer of this game and have concluded that he does not pose a danger to the staff or students of Port Moody Secondary."
Damn straight.
Didn't one kid make a map of his school actually get his entire PC confiscated and him arrested or some shit?
that original headline, jesus christ

I've always wanted to map out my school, mainly this ground level eating area just haven't got around to it.
Yeah, the way my school was built involved the slow acquisition of properties around it, so the architecture and layout is completely haphazard. Would be great for a tactical shooter
Hopefully at some point in the future this won't even constitute an interview from the police. I'm glad the developer made his point so well.
Playing this game didn't make me want shoot anyone. But it had one effect on me. Last august i was on a vacation with my friends in Houston for Quake-con, and when we went to the JFK memorial i immediately recognised the road and the layout except for some different landscape. It was the best vacation ever.
my school has some nice architecture it'd be interesting to map it if i ever got around to it

Do they not know the danger?!

CS is just the best thing man
Oh god, the comments. They're so much fun. How many of you signed up to refute them? "This is sick. So wrong. What is hapening to our society?" "Dear 'Young Man who wishes to be un-named publicly': This is Not cool. Not even a smidgeon. Irresponsible, actually. Couldn't you have found some abandoned space somewhere? And why the heck stage a violent vid game in a school, of all places? Duh!! and Doh!! (No wonder you don't want to be named.) Youth .... you don't need these video games all the time. There's a BC Election on May 14th - all the real fun and games you could ever hope for! Get off the video games, Register, and Vote <\:-{ ... <----- stern teacher look" "...What's frightening is that this game allows a psycho to train on a simulator of the actual place. There's no need for the game to do that." "'You are what you eat.' - and what you watch, listen to and do. Where are the games about peace, love, and harmony?" "So, the game is decades old? The developer says "users have the maturity . . ." Yeah! Right! Of course the developer is going to defend his product, that's called capitalism. Can any of you "youngsters" tell us why school shootings, and multiple shootings in the public, workplace, etc were virtually non-existent prior to the 1980's? Probably not, Not everyone who plays violent games will commit violence, but I'm pretty sure the incidence is greatly increased by violet games." I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry.
Also I recognize the music in the background of the video. Anyone know what it is?
I do believe it's the main theme for Crysis 2. Good ol' Hans Zimmer.
Damn those violet games!
He's obviously discussing the psychosomatic implications of Dark Souls. Violet Summer is a bad role model.
I love how people think the 1980s began "The Era of Mass Murder" In the 1910s, an elusive killer named "Shotgun Man" terrorized Italian immigrants in Chicago and killed 10+ citizens. In 1958 a boyfriend-girlfriend couple killed 11 people across Nebraska on a mass murder spree. In 1975 a spree killer took Kelsey Grammer's younger sister, as well as 4 other people. Mass murder and spree killing has always happened, it's just our media likes to sensationalize even an inkling of its existence in order to get viewers.
