I cannot even run the first ArmAII. The expansion packs are worthless to me, it's sad I need them to play multiplaer pretty much.
Oh well, maybe when I get a new computer they'll be like.. 10$
So is this just PMC and BAF in one?
it's sad I need them to play multiplaer pretty much.
The game (OA anyways, not sure about the original A2) comes with "lite" versions of both BAF and PMC, meaning you get the content, with really lo-res textures and lower quality sounds, allowing you to play in missions with that content.
Picked up the whole lot (ARMA 2, OA, BOTH DLCs) for £30 on Steam last christmas.
Worth it.

I got all them on Xmas too!

You don't need them.
I want them to just improve the gameplay instead of re-releasing games that most ARMA guys have anyway (including myself)
...and if you don't know what kind of gameplay im on about:
1, MOVE TO, THAT, TREE, AT, 11 O'CLOCK.
ARMA2 is fun if you're really, really intoxicated.
Otherwise it wears out it's welcome. They need a new scripting system, new models, new physics... so many things are lacking.

They only released this as they have had a lot of people asking for a hard copy of the DLC.

I assume it was old people who are scared of the internet who asked for it.

Wait, old people play ARMA? :ohdear:

Quite a few, its quite surprising the range of people who play arma.
I try to enjoy the game by playing it how it's mean to be played, but I just get lazy all the time.

Operation Arrowhead is easier to run than Arma II becuase there is like 99% less trees and these two expansions run in the level that OA does.
Got my hopes up comming to this thread thinking there was a new DLC.
I got OA for 5 euros because a store had their prices screwed up :smug:
If you ask for any kind of improvements on arma 2 the fans will instantly say things like "LOL DIDDENT KNOW ARMA 3 WAS COMING OUT NEXT PATCH"
or
"GET OUTTA HERE BIS IS NOT MILLONARS."
If you feel the game is lacking in any way it is a crime to say it out loud in that community.

I'm fully aware of this, first hand experience. Their scripting language is my biggest beef with that game, not only is it highly exploitable (you can execute any scripting function and it will effect the entire server, this includes dropping bombs, killing people, invincibility, spawning AI, spawning vehicles and ammo boxes, you name it) but it's syntax is the most unnatural feeling against-all-instincts abomination I've ever seen. (Sort of reminds me of TCL in that regard, but way, way worse). It also isn't expandable and is missing a lot of critical features like any sort of database, not even file based and if you mention MySQL or File DB's they'll point you to some windows based proxy-DLL hack some guy cooked up by replacing a never-used scripting function by detouring the server. Seriously what the fuck.
There is so many free scripting engines that are so far superior i don't understand the issue at all. It's the biggest problem in the entire game and it isn't even that hard to solve, or costly for that matter.
The second biggest issue is AI but it's understandable, at least, since to have a high AI count they need to be a little stupid. (I think they may also be somewhat client controlled but that's just my speculation, I've never looked into it fully).
Models aren't really that big of a deal, sure things look a little funky but it really isn't that high up there.
Sort of got off track, basically i posted my scripting critique on the forums and any constructive criticism basically means you'll be flamed into oblivion. I don't understand that logic, constructive criticism is good, it lets the people developing know there's a problem instead of blind faith in a busted ass system. It's like getting a hamburger with shit smeared all over it, restaurant wondering why it's going under and their one customer who likes shit smeared burgers saying everything is OK when it clearly isn't.
BIS fanboys are just bad. You won't even know the extent until you've actually met some of them.
I don't like playing against AI, wish it could handle lots of people on multiplayer, then I'd get it.
I don't like playing against AI, wish it could handle lots of people on multiplayer, then I'd get it.
Well it does handle quite a few people online but often you battle against AI. There's also roleplay servers and other types of DM servers where even though there's a lower player count you can spawn AI in a squad with you, or command them to attack places on their own. That's pretty fun too, tbh.

Servers can go up to over 200 people. Its just that they cant even stand more than 25 people at once. You have warfare servers anyway.
Roleplay sucks because all people do is grief, I was doing a job in roleplay grinding it so I could afford a littlebird and within five seconds of me taking off it got shot down for no reason.
I wish i'm good at scripting in the editor

I love this. I did a battle between 50 helicopters in the middle of an open field and challenged myself to see how far I could get to the forest before I got killed by one of the blown up helicopters landing on my head.

I thought this was a joke when I first heard about it. But no, that really is the way to get any sort of interaction without anything external to the game. Maybe people expect to much, but surely it would not have been hard for BIS to add an easy way to interact with external things, perhaps in the way gmod can load modules.
I have tried using the scripting language in ArmA and it is just feels terrible, I have been unable to do anything beyond basics (and I am able to code, so it's not like its a lack of understanding)
Did you win?
Honestly, I made it to the forest, then went back out into the field to examine the wreckage only to be mowed down by one of the enemy helicopters (I left my model as the standard military rifleman).

Yeah. I mainly just play the game for the editor. I use the editor mostly for flying a bunch of planes and helicopters.
