The Hubble Space Telescope has spotted new unexplained and mysterious storms appearing in the atmosphere of Uranus.
The Hubble, along with Hawaii’s Keck Observatory, have been keeping a close eye on these storms as astronomers and planetary scientists try to discover just what caused their sudden appearance. The working theory at the moment is that the storms are linked to the bright cloud activity in the planet’s upper atmosphere; a total of eight of these strong storms were spotted across a two-day period in the northern hemisphere of Uranus. The intensity and violence of these storms is such that 30 percent of the light reflected off the planet is coming from these small, turbulent spots.
i wouldn't count on it. they've been dead for thousands of years.
This is actually really cool but of course people are too amused by the name to even read the article.

It was discovered in the late 1700s though.

I sometimes like to imagine the first guy who made the connection, and when that joke was new.
"Hey! Guys! Who is the Greek god of the Sky?"
"Why Uranus ol chap!"
"My anus? :)"
"No, not, but... HAHAH OH MY! You sir are a real twister of comedic words! Come, we must tell Reginald of this guffaw!"

I always hate these stories because they never include actual photos. I mean if they have Hubble pointed at Uranus why not take some pictures?

Hubble can take pictures of a galaxy millions of light years away and have it look amazing and this is the best they give us of Uranus?

It is better than any telescope I have ever used but I also wondered the same thing. I am sure it is completely different techniques they use.
