An al Qaeda linked group has said it was behind the deadly double suicide attack on the Iranian embassy in Beirut.
The blast killed at least 23 people, including an Iranian cultural attache, and hurled bodies and burning wreckage across a debris-strewn street.
Nearly 150 people were injured.
The Abdullah Azzam Brigades has threatened to inflict more carnage unless Iran withdraws forces from Syria, where they have backed President Bashar al-Assad’s over two year old war against rebels.
Iran’s foreign minister interrupted talks with his Italian counterpart to condemn the attack and issue an appeal for international aid.
“The tragedy today, two Iranians were victims of it and more and more Lebanese unfortunately than Iranians were victims of this tragedy but that should be a reminder for all of us, that should be an alarm for all of us that we need to deal with this issue and unless we deal with this issue seriously it will engulf all of us,” said Mohammed Javal Zarif.
You'd think Iran would be the last country they would want to attack.

Al-Qaeda and US-sponsored Sunni terrorist groups have launched attacks against Iran for years.

Not when you take into account the middle east's continuous holy war.

Are you trying to claim Al-Qaeda is US sponsored? That's getting a bit far out there.
US-sponsored Sunni terrorist groups? I'm searching this and I'm not finding much.

True, but I was just kinda jokingly pointing out that they have a decent amount of ideological similarities. I understand politics is more complex than that and there are more precise reasons.
My question that I was actually interested in the answer to was about these US sponsored Sunni terrorist groups. I legitimately am curious.

The Iran Iraq war was quite a while ago. If I am correct we have been to war with Iraq a few times since then.

The US loves funding one side of a war, funded side wins, it declares independence and suddenly it becomes a terrorist nation after a while. It would be easier to fight them after they've lost half its military power; then the US reinstates a puppet government. Then the cycle repeats as there will be pro and anti puppet gov parties
It has taken responsibility for the deaths and kidnappings of more than a dozen Iranian soldiers and officials.
Hmm, never heard of it. 12 people isn't honestly a big deal when their are this many killed commonly. The only article anyway is from 2007 about a small operation under bush. It isn't exactly like the US is funding a terror crusade (though I don't doubt they would consider it).
They have carried out bombs at civilian centers, such as the mosque in 2009 that killed 25 people, and another shortly after at a town that killed 43.
not that iran is this big scary giant, but they are kinda one of the few friends of terrorists....
you don't really want to piss off Iran, the guys that fund probably half the militant islamic groups across the world do you?
