University of Maryland investigating Kappa Sigma frat after racist e-mail leaks
AJ Hurwitz can now be added to the growing list of white frat brothers on college campuses, who feel it’s there right to spew racist epitones and ignorance whenever they please.
The University of Maryland has opened an investigation on the Kappa Sigma chapter after the disgustingly racist and misogynist mail was allegedly sent by Mr. Hurwitz.
In a statement, the University of Maryland’s President President Wallace D. Loh condemned the letter, explaining that the school is getting to the bottom of its origin after learning of the email earlier this week:
The vulgar language in the email expresses views that are reprehensible to our campus community. We immediately met with the individual involved and a University investigation is currently underway, led by the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct. We are in contact with the University chapter of Kappa Sigma and they have taken swift and decisive action in this matter. At their request, the University has committed to provide educational training on diversity and respect for the entire fraternity.

What an enlightened, level headed chap.
I'm more concerned by the "fuck consent" part.
Talking about raping fellow students should be grounds for expulsion idk
Jesus christ there is not a word in that email that does not disgust me
That e-mail reads like satire
Holy crap, every sentence in that is just vile.
Every line of that email is like beautifully constructed art.
What a vulgar little idiot. It's offensive that he ever got into a University.
It doesn't look like that was sent via his school email but it does have the University in his signature.
That being said, I don't really know how I feel about the university launching an investigation. Sure the guy is an asshat but I don't feel that the president should go much further than showing disagreement and discontent with the content of the email.

Behavior impacts a college whether it was done on campus or not. If this just gets let go because he didn't use the college email, it'll show that the University of Maryland doesn't give a shit about who they let into their campus.

On top of that, it makes the University look even more unsafe for minorities and women.
Absolutely love how the only word highlighted is "nigger" even though "chink" is right fucking there too.
Do people only associate racism with the N-word now or what?

I can understand that. I suppose the university has no choice but to get involved but something about investigating a personal email feels weird to me.
How can you type any of that email and not think "wait a second, this looks pretty awful"?

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to weed out horrible people from your school
"curry monsters" lmao
The whole frat system in US universities seems like breeding grounds for stupidity and disaster.
The frat at my university is a Kappa Sigma chapter and this sounds exactly like the type of shit I expect from them.

There are a few exceptions, but they're mostly huge administrative risks.
What a vile little twit.
This is one of those instances where I wonder if I am even in real life or not, this cannot be real it reads too much like satire in every single way.
Here we go again, everyone shits on greek life because of the few fuckups out of the hundreds if not thousands of fraternity chapters in the US. With the sheer raw amount of people in greek life, it's impossible not to have fuck ups. Most chapter's aren't that fucked. Joining this chapter was one of the best decisions I made. Before this, I had no social life and just sat at my computer in the dorms. Now I am vice president of this chapter and manage the PR, scholastics, rush, fraternal, activities, community service, and newsletter committees and make sure they all fulfill their responsibilities in a professional and risk free manner.

I may spend the majority of time in my dorm room playing video games or in the library doing homework by myself, but at least I wasn't so socially inept I felt the need to pay for friends which is all greek life is.

Did you miss the part where it says "fuck consent", orrrr...? That's a blatant intent to commit rape, dude. Like you can argue the racism part, but he's outright saying he wants to rape women

I don't think anybody's shitting on greek life, they're just saying that parts of the fraternity system can breed some very nasty people if left unchecked.

Not really, living here is $1000+ cheaper than living in the dorms. I am closer to campus than the dorms and we have our own chef who used to work in a 4 star restaurant, so enjoy your shit dorm food unless your fortunate enough to be in a dorm with a kitchen. I had friends on my dorm floor, but I was pretty bored there.

Agreed there must be checks and balances.

Students are meant to represent the university they're studying at. These guys need to be expelled and their reputations ruined.

keep in mind that there's probably a lot of terrible shit that goes unreported, or otherwise stays under the radar at universities
I may spend the majority of time in my dorm room playing video games or in the library doing homework by myself, but at least I wasn't so socially inept I felt the need to pay for friends which is all greek life is.
You're pretty confused about what Greek life is like. It's really a life changing experience. You aren't buying friends. Dues are paid for insurance purposes and to allow for effective purchasing power and to ensure that you can have a functioning organization. The world runs on money, there's no getting around it. Being part of a Greek organization lets you help out in your community in a way which you and your friends feel is most beneficial (We ask each other "Who in the community needs the most help?") I've helped run food drives, charity runs, fundraisers, etc. Professionally I feel better off having helped handle the finances of a business. I have people all around the country I can contact when I'm in need of assistance. It's an absolutely brilliant thing to be a part of from a networking standpoint.
Greek life is much more than 'buying' friends. If anyone is socially inept, it's the man who thinks he needs to speak ill of people he clearly knows little about. I'll ask, how active are you in your community? Perhaps you should revisit the idea.
"curry monsters" lmao
I like how this is the best insult this inbred fuckwad in the email could come up with. Like the fuck you talking about curry is fucking awesome.

Does anyone else think the people talking like this about "greek life" sound creepy and religious about it too or is it just me?

"Our community/church helps run fundraisers and food drives! (and rapes little boys/drunken women in the back room, but ignore that part)"
