Details on two more cancelled Star Wars titles have emerged; Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Trilogy and Rogue Squadron: X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. The Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Trilogy went into development exclusively for the original Xbox but then switched over to the Wii in the following years. The trilogy was to include Rogue Squadron, Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader and Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike.
Speaking with IGN, former Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht said that the game was completed and even had support for Wii Motion Plus lightsaber battles. It ran at 60FPS on the Wii, thanks to its new engine compared to that of the first Xbox.
Bastards..... I'd have bought the shit out of that.
Rogue Squadron doesn't need Lightsaber battles. But I would have bought that Trilogy if they included a few bonus ships like the Z-95, E-Wing, Tie Defender, YT-2400.

From the way one of the devs explained it the lightsaber battles seemed more like a mini-game/multiplayer thing rather than being in the Rogue Squadron campaigns.
Oh GODDAMN IT.
This should of been released. I own all of them but sold my gamecube and gave my N64 to my brother awhile back and yet emulation for these games are entirely broken because of the hacks they used for most of the games.
Even the fucking PC version of the first rouge squadron game doesn't even work unless you have an old ATI card.
Sucks it never saw the light of day, truly an exceptional series. The graphics were already insane and wouldn't even require updating
Oh, COME ON!
Will Rogue Squadron games ever work on the Dolphin emulator?

Probably not anytime soon. See:

Specifically:
“Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike in particular have long been emblematic of Dolphin's failures: they're by Factor 5, a developer legendary for taking hardware to its limits and beyond. In the N64 days they rewrote the firmware on the GPU to push 5 times more polygons than it was supposed to; in the Gamecube era they made Star Wars games that used basically every single feature in the book that Dolphin finds difficult to emulate. Making them playable won't just involve lots of continuing CPU optimizations, but also implementing graphics features that no modern card supports a direct equivalent of, like ZFreeze (if it's not implemented, the skybox covers nearly everything in the game and you can't see more than a few feet in front of you!).”
Which is a massive shame since they were amongst my favorite Star Wars games ever made.
I just can't understand why we haven't seen more big Star War titles over the past 5-8 years. Star Wars is easily one of the biggest video game-friendly franchises that has seen the light of day. The only releases I can think of that has been fairly recent are SWTOR and Force Unleashed.

If you believe the various bits that came out around Battlefront 3's cancellation and Lucasarts being closed down, Lucasarts's execs got so bent on saving money that they thought that even marketing these games would cost too much and went with sure winners like Star Wars Kinect instead.
Cause that clearly made more money than any re-release of the Rogue Squadron games or that dumb Battlefront 3 thing could ever hope for, right?

Well that's depressing.

trashing a completed game is just the worst
I'm so sad the Rogue Squadron series never came to PC beyond the first one. They were all such good damn games I remember from when I was young, and I'd kill to be able to play Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike on PC with enhanced visuals. Factor 5's demise was so tragic to hear. I never enjoy hearing about old studios responsible for some of my favorite games shutting down, or going bankrupt.
I feel sorry for the people that worked hard and probably quite passionately on these games just to have it canned after completion.
