Riding on the wave of AMD's new Radeon RX 480 which is priced at $199, the new GeForce GTX 1060 features GTX 980 level performance starting from $249. nvidia-announces-geforce-gtx-1060-ready-battle-radeon-rx-480_01 For $249, NVIDIA has constructed the GeForce GTX 1060 to be a mid-range monster with 1280 CUDA cores and 6GB of GDDR5 RAM at 8GHz. For clock speeds, NVIDIA has said that the boost clock on the GP106 GPU hits 1.7GHz, and can be "easily overclocked to 2GHz for further performance". As for power consumption, thanks to the incredibly efficient Pascal architecture and the new 16nm FinFET process, the GeForce GTX 1060 has a power-sipping 120W TDP.
http://www.tweaktown.com/news/52932/nvidia-announces-geforce-gtx-1060-ready-battle-radeon-rx-480/index.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=tweaktown
Guh, is this too good to be true like AMD's were?
250 USD so meaning about 400 in Europe with probably a little extra because demand will be much greater than supply in the first few weeks not sure which one is worth getting over the other though, the Rx 480 scales well in dx12 while the 1060 has better specs on paper
Guh, is this too good to be true like AMD's were?
probably not because it's not amd :iceburn:
Cant wait for manufacturers to go and mark up the price like they did with the 70 and 80. 249? Try 320.
More competition is always good.
i'm glad I waited before upgrading my R9 290.
i'm glad I waited before upgrading my R9 290.
Why in the world would you upgrade to a 1060 from a 290? Unless there's something wrong with your card you should wait another generation or two to get a decent upgrade(or upgrade to a more expensive card), as unverified 980 performance isn't going to be a huge difference from the 290
This lower price for better performance trend seems exponentially better this generation, which is freaking awesome for game development, performance budgets won't be so constraining in the coming years, so lots of amazing looking stuff is going to come out. Great time for video games, guys.
Guh, is this too good to be true like AMD's were?
There's been one leaked 3dmark score, which pegs it at ~11200:http://www.fudzilla.com/news/41054-leaked-gtx-1060-benchmarks-show-it-cleans-rx-480-s-clock Of course it's a leak (with pre-release drivers and dubious authenticity), but the GTX 980 seems to score a bit higher than that, in the 12000 range maybe. This is a synthetic benchmark, so maybe you shouldn't read too much into it. For comparison the 480 sits at around ~10800. Makes me regret getting a 980Ti
Honestly I'm still looking forward to the RX 470 as a budget solution because NVIDIA has a massive monopoly right now and anti-consumer practices.
Honestly I'm still looking forward to the RX 470 as a budget solution because NVIDIA has a massive monopoly right now and anti-consumer practices.
monopoly no but they did attempt something similar, i mean the whole gameworks shit is bad
Now, the price; NVIDIA has priced the GeForce GTX 1060 Founders Edition at $299, which has "premium materials and components, including a faceted die-cast aluminum body machine finished for strength and rigidity and a thermal solution designed to run cool and quiet". NVIDIA adds that like the GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 Founders Edition cards, the GTX 1060 has "a dual-FETs power supply is used to improve power efficiency, along with a low impedance power delivery network and custom voltage regulators". AIB partners will have their cards available from $249, so we should see the likes of MSI, ASUS, EVGA, GIGABYTE and others to have cards from $249 and up. Custom cards will be on their way very soon, with some great custom PCBs and cooling setups - so expect the same custom cards from partners like we saw with the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards.
Yeah, sure AIB cards will be cheaper ($10 less than founders edition) There are multiple more examples but the non founders edition is very rarely cheaper than the founders edition.
Still don't see a reason to upgrade since Doom (on high) ran fine on my 760 (had to solve some shadowplay issues at first tho)
monopoly no but they did attempt something similar, i mean the whole gameworks shit is bad
And G-Sync and CUDA, just to name a few. I really hope AMD's push for non proprietary tech helps them out in the long run.
There are multiple more examples but the non founders edition is very rarely cheaper than the founders edition.
Those aren't the real prices and you know it
Yeah, sure AIB cards will be cheaper ~lol images~ There are multiple more examples but the non founders edition is very rarely cheaper than the founders edition.
I'm pretty sure you're seeing offers from 3rd party sellers ie. scalpers. If it doesn't have prime shipping then it's not being sold at MSRP because it's not coming from amazon [editline]7th July 2016[/editline] MSRP on that evga one is $440. [t]http://i.imgur.com/sEmMfvI.png[/t] Gee, I wonder why it's higher.
Guh, is this too good to be true like AMD's were?
Nope. Benchmarks are already out and legit. At launch EVGA and Gigabyte were 70-30 dollars cheaper than the founder's edition. If AMD cards become scarce the exact same thing will happen to them.
I still have a GTX 950 sitting next to my desk I haven't installed yet since I fucked up my hard drive. :v:
So it'll be like 350€. But is it worth the 50€ more than RX480?
Nope. Benchmarks are already out and legit.
Where? I haven't found any beyond the 3dmark one I already cited.
Damn I built my computer too late to upgrade and too early for these cards. I got the 970 before the whole 3.5gb scandal and now a year and a half later these cards are coming out for less and better performance.
Don't look at early reviews for this card because the press kits seem to be 1080s in disguise rather than real 1060s which would have their own chip. http://semiaccurate.com/2016/07/06/nvidias-gp104-based-gt1060-real/

I'm almost considering it just so I can safely drive a 1440p monitor in modern games. No benches for the 970 look promising at higher quality settings.
Cant wait for manufacturers to go and mark up the price like they did with the 70 and 80. 249? Try 320.
How much was the 1070 supposed to be? It's like 540 euros or something here where I live.
Cant wait for manufacturers to go and mark up the price like they did with the 70 and 80. 249?
Yeah, sure AIB cards will be cheaper There are multiple more examples but the non founders edition is very rarely cheaper than the founders edition.
I bought a 1070, Canadian dollars. It was a full 60$ less than the founders edition of it. It's not a great savings but it's not that bad either.
How do companies like NVIDIA release "revolutionary performance" every year? Do they do R&D to the point of "Okay, this is what we have by this date, release it" or is it just never ending "We've discovered better newer technology!"? What I am asking is, do they limit how much work they do each year so they can have another better system next year and so on? I feel like you can only tweak a technology so much before you reach the limit.
