I honestly have never used a Windows laptop with a good trackpad. TrackPoint (red nub on ThinkPads) is the one input method I find tolerable on non-Apple laptops. MacBook trackpads are really great, though.
That said, I think there's just something inherently wrong with how scrolling works in Windows. It's always kind of choppy, or something. Right now I am using a ThinkPad, similar to the one in the video, with OS X installed on it - and despite being absolutely unsupported, scrolling works properly, I can do sideways scrolling and so on. Same with Linux, even, it works.
On Windows, though, it never quite works right. Even with the TrackPoint I would have to get Lenovo's weird as hell driver, which would get swapped out (so if I open too many Chrome tabs, I would be basically left with a frozen mouse pointer for a good 10 seconds or so), and I need to get a third party utility just to get the middle click functionality back (which works out of the box on Linux). I also have a Surface Pro 3, but the trackpad on its Type Cover, while better, is still problematic as well. Scrolling on it doesn't work in applications like Photoshop, for whatever reason, and sometimes a click would "stick" until I disconnect/reconnect the keyboard, and randomly I would just lose the ability to scroll at all until I reboot.
I don't want to hate on Microsoft and the OEMs, but there is really something wrong when an essential feature works better on a completely unsupported hacked on OS than on the OS the computer ships with.
why is he gasping so hard
Is this guy really complaining about trackpads for 15 minutes? Buy a fucking wireless mouse if it's that big of a problem. Not all laptops have shit trackpads - I know the thinkpad series has one of the worst trackpads I have ever used, but I've never had problems with any other brand.
This guy's videos suck, please don't let this become a regularly posted channel. He sounds like he's on the verge of crying in most of his videos, he seems really awkward and frenzied and has a hard time just breathing let alone making a coherent point. I don't get it, why would you be mad that Synaptics is trying to improve their trackpads? I mean I get that they still kinda suck, but turning it into a "stop trying to be a Mac!" argument is just stupid.. Almost as stupid as recording or watching a 15 minute video about how some guy doesn't like his trackpad.
Trackpads are crap by definition.
A better argument is to not half-ass execution of features.
Did he really need like 8 minutes to show that one trackpad sucks while the other one is great?

I use touchpads every day and it's extremely annoying. Having to use a mouse on a laptop I'm carrying with me all the time is annoying.
I just want something that works.
Another legitimate criticism is everything trying to copy Apple when it comes to a lot of things at the cost of functionality, which is very apparent with the Thinkpad he's demonstrating. It's a small problem, but these problems add up to equal a lot of bullshit, I think.
The video is way too long though.

yeah, if I want to work in blender I had to use a mouse, the fake scroll wheel is terrible on my laptop.
is it bad that one of the largest reason I bought a mac is because of the touchpad

At the cost of what functionality? They are not trying to get rid of the trackpoint or anything are they?
His argument is utterly flawed. A big good trackpad is not something endemic to macs. A big trackpad is also not something that's a mac imitation.
Honestly then he goes and kills the video by being in love with the nipple.
Not to mention he doesn't even show one of the new bigger trackpads.
but i have a pc and not a trackpad
laptops still use trackpads when then could just come with their own mouse, and that's funny to me

if size is really that horrible tiny mice can't possibly be that uncomforting to own
like seriously, a laptop could EASILY have a tiny lockable compartment and charging station for a small yet comfortable mouse that is cheap to replace, it would also reduce (hugely) the wasted space needed for a trackpad
I like the surface keyboard trackpad
Only problem I have with them really is that it's pretty small, but it captures gestures pretty nicely, and then it went from hard buttons to soft button (with a divider) in the second model (free upgrade over warranty replacement)
It does very well mimicking the gestures on the touchscreen onto the keyboard

But clit mouse 4 life
I have no idea why this division between "Mac" and "PC" has to exist. Macs just run OSX, and everything else is hardware and unrelated to it actually being a "Mac" or a "PC".
Yes, Apple has a locked ecosystem and their hardware is going to be different to non-OSX products, but it is entirely possible to put OSX on a non-Apple device just as it is possible to make an Apple product run an OS that isn't OSX. This video could have just been "don't have bad trackpads in your product". It reminds me of a teacher who sold me she preferred Mac over PC because the screen resolutions were better.
I have a ThinkPad Edge running Arch, and the trackpad is fantastic.
It was pretty good running Windows with the Synaptics drivers too, since the Edge-line still gets the business drivers, instead of consumer crap. But you did have to do some tweaking.
It's really annoying nowadays that companies just refuse to put good trackpads in their laptops.
A touchpad is good for me as long as it has a smooth texture to it (no cheese grinder stuff), and two physical buttons.
Synaptics works nicely for me.
Christ, just use a clitmouse, all trackpads are garbage.
It depends on what you're used to.
Those big trackpads with buttons combined into it suck ass because more often then not it fucks up with more than one finger on the pad.
I've had it happen countless of times that I'm pointing with my left finger, and then I want to click with my right finger, and the cursor suddenly just shoots over the screen because the trackpad fucked it up.

Not everything I do relies on typing. It's the same when you use a proper mouse.
I play Quake and UT just fine with one.
Sounds like the worst analogue stick.
But hey, people play CoD competently with analogue controllers so there's that.
mac trackpads are the greatest thing ever?
Christ, just use a clitmouse, all trackpads are garbage.
You prefer concave or convex?
I prefer concave, easier to reside on
i've used a shit ton of both mac trackpads and windows laptop trackpads and i'm really confused as to what you guys are talking about
Did he really need like 8 minutes to show that one trackpad sucks while the other one is great?
Here I scroll scroll scroll scroll use mouse scroll scroll scroll scroll scroll scroll use mouse
scroll scroll scroll use mouse
All the elitebook models ive used dating back to 2012 have fairly good trackpads. Last MBP I used was the late 07 model and the trackpad was nothing amazing, it just worked
You guys are plebs, just abandon the mouse altogether and navigate completely via the keyboard.
[Sp]sarcasm :v[/sp]

Even UT and Quake?
