"He said 'yes.' Smoke was coming from my nose and mouth. Straight away I knew something was not right." It wasn't: Internal tissue was destroyed and her stomach lining perforated, and she had to undergo emergency surgery to remove her stomach and have her small bowel attached to her esophagus.

ingested a liquid nitrogen shot
Well there's the problem. Who would HONESTLY think this is a good idea to ingest. Let alone goddamn serve it as a drink...? If you don't let it sit long enough it'll fuck you up. I don't see the point.
Barman shouldn't have said it was okay to drink, then again you'd have to be pretty dumb yourself to even contemplate it.

No doubt the bar got totally fucked up by regulators. They even told them exactly how to serve the fucking thing and the bar seemingly just ignored that.
I'm confused why this is being reposted. Virtually no new information was provided in the article or the article it cited (which just cites the original 2012 story). Edit: Apparently the fine was finally issued to the bar. Bad reading.

But why you would actually WANT to drink Liquid Nitrogen is beyond me.

Probably looks sweet though.

Maybe this is some kind of new drinking trend like all the others that have came and gone.
At least she didn't die. Still a shitty day tho.
At least she didn't die. Still a shitty day tho.
How can you live without a stomach though

Having got some on my arm from a drink at the alchemist and it hurt like buggery, I can't imagine what it would feel like to drink the stuff. Fucking ow.
http://www.rdehospital.nhs.uk/docs/prof/thoracic_uppergi/PS%2007%20012%20001%20word.pdf
That's such a shit thing to have to live with. Hope she adjusts well. Bar staff were fucking morons
Having got some on my arm from a drink at the alchemist and it hurt like buggery, I can't imagine what it would feel like to drink the stuff. Fucking ow.
It would hurt a whole lot more for her, considering it would have blown her stomach up like a balloon until it ruptured. 1 teaspoon of liquid nitrogen evaporates into 3.4 litres of gas.

Well even though it's not illegal it clearly should be because of idiocy (by both the girl and the bartender) like this...
I had a cookie dipped in liquid nitrogen once. It was extremely cold, but as long as you chew and swallow it quickly, it's safe to eat.
Well even though it's not illegal it clearly should be because of idiocy (by both the girl and the bartender) like this...
I fail to see how the girl was an idiot. I would assume that if a bar is serving a drink and telling me it is safe, it is indeed safe.

Ice cream made with liquid nitrogen is pretty tasty and has a nice texture.

You don't drink the nitrogen itself. Let it boil off so it doesn't expand to all fuckery once you drink the alcohol that's left. It can be safe, so long as the bar staff actually know what they're doing with it and don't ignore instructions from a government agency that tells them exactly how to prepare such a thing. LN is probably one of the lesser dangerous things bars and clubs around here tend to play with chemistry wise, so long as the staff are actually aware of what they are selling.
Combining alcohol and liquid nitrogen sound dangerous as fuck. Considering how cold alcohol can get without freezing, if you are not doing it properly.
Ice cream made with liquid nitrogen is pretty tasty and has a nice texture.
Because the liquid nitrogen has completely evaporated at that point. Ingesting any of it while it's still liquid (or shortly thereafter if too much cold lingers) is extremely dangerous.
I take it this is the bar version of puffer fish? I never understood why people would want to eat something that clearly wasn't meant to be edible.
ingested a liquid nitrogen shot
Well, i'm surprised she didn't die.
This is at least the second time I've heard of this happening. You're supposed to wait for the liquid nitrogen to evaporate off, but bar tenders are idiots and don't know how long that takes. They put a dash of liquid nitrogen in the drink so it creates that smokey effect, but you're not supposed to drink it right away. I'll never understand why anyone would risk ingesting liquid nitrogen just so their drink looks cool before they drink it.
Curious as to why people are blaming the girl. She didn't even order the drink, it was given to her for free by the bartender. Basically, he put a steaming drink in front of her, she asked if it was safe, and he said yes. Her only "failure" was in trusting that the bar she was at wasn't going to serve customers something so outrageously dangerous. This is the bar's fault, nobody else's. It simply should not be serving drinks this dangerous, and I'd it is going to, then it sure as hell should make sure that the bartenders are WELL trained on the preperation. Even then, I'd say the risk seriously outweighs the reward. Bars are busy and chaotic places, mistakes happen. Those mistakes should not potentially result in agonizing death and injury.
I take it this is the bar version of puffer fish? I never understood why people would want to eat something that clearly wasn't meant to be edible.
You can't possibly be serious. Anyways, this is a huge screw-up for the establishment's part, there's no arguing otherwise. There's an immense responsibility over the safety of your customers when running a service like that.
I've had one at a restaurant before. They told us three or four times not to drink until it stopped smoking. I was wondering why because it would be cooler to drink with the smoke, but I suppose I know now that my stomach would have exploded.
I take it this is the bar version of puffer fish? I never understood why people would want to eat something that clearly wasn't meant to be edible.
What does "meant to be edible" even mean Who's intents are we basing if off of, whether or not they meant for something to be edible?
