• Dog rescued after being trapped in hot car

A panicking dog left inside a car in sweltering heat was rescued after it set off the vehicle's alarm. The dog had been left in the back of a blue Chrysler people carrier next to the seafront in Exmouth, Devon, for around an hour as temperatures soared to 30C on Friday afternoon. Bastard owners
who the fuck would do this to their dog
People are so stupid they are unable to realize how fast temperatures rise inside of a closed car that's been left in the sun, it's gonna be close to 80 Celsius in 10 minutes My mother has had to bust two car windows this summer, and in previous years she had had to call mall security or whoever multiple times to get the dogs out one of the owners actually had the nerve to bitch to her about it
Surely on a lovely day like that one they'd take the dog with them!
Same with kids. Never leave anything with a heart pumping in a fucking car. Shit gets me raged hard.
I hope they get charged with animal cruelty and get the RSPCA takes the dog
I hope they get charged with animal cruelty and get the RSPCA takes the dog
Accidents happen every day, but this shit goes way beyond that. The reason I'm reacting like this is because someone I knew left his cat in his car after a visit to the vet. He wanted to "quickly" catch some food, he gets back and his cat was laying in it's cage dead.

Typically I can't find a source for something when it becomes pertinent. But my local police have issued fines for animal endangerment in addition to that to two people.

"quickly" is a lot longer to the animal trapped in your car that it is to you picking up a big mac or something.
If someone's gonna leave a pet in the car at least leave the car on for the air conditioning
Even if you leave the AC on, it wont be too affective. Its designed to work best at about 60mph/~100kph. There are fans on the front to help when stopped, but they arent too effecient in cooling the condensor. Not sure how it is in the UK, but i noticed that here in the US, some stores have started putting up signs to check for children/pets left in cars. Of course, things here are a little worse. Average temperatures where i live sway from about 80f to 105f during the summer
Pretty much all cars I've seen can be unlocked from the inside, so children can easily open the door

How effective is leaving the windows of the car open slightly?
Pretty much all cars I've seen can be unlocked from the inside, so children can easily open the door
Well, there's a difference if it's an infant or a child that doesn't know how locks work, which are mostly the victims in these stories.

What a horrible coincidence.
Pretty much all cars I've seen can be unlocked from the inside, so children can easily open the door
Most cars (if not all) has children locks though. Making the doors unopenable from the inside regardless if they're locked or not.
Most cars (if not all) has children locks though. Making the doors unopenable from the inside regardless if they're locked or not.
Only the back doors though, the front ones have to open from the inside in case of a crash
How effective is leaving the windows of the car open slightly?
How about you try it and sit in there for however long and tell us how comfortable it is in 86 degree weather.
Only the back doors though, the front ones have to open from the inside in case of a crash
I have seen on the passengers side as well. Although that was on an old car so it could've been changed since than.
How about you try it and sit in there for however long and tell us how comfortable it is in 86 degree weather.
Or how about you just tell me so I don't have to take a chance and potentially risk my cat's life in the future.
Or how about you just tell me so I don't have to take a chance and potentially risk my cat's life in the future.
I wouldn't risk it even if someone said it was potentially safe. It's cruel non-the less.
Or how about you just tell me so I don't have to take a chance and potentially risk my cat's life in the future.
What I'm saying is no, it's obviously not fucking comfortable to be in a car under the sun, and for a small animal it's going to be a lot more dangerous. This is just common sense so you really shouldn't having to be asking in the first place whether or not you want to leave your pet in an oven on wheels.
Or how about you just tell me so I don't have to take a chance and potentially risk my cat's life in the future.
How about don't do it at all if you even care about your cat. If you have to debate whether or not it may kill it, probably best not do what might kill it.
I wouldn't risk it even if someone said it was potentially safe. It's cruel non-the less.
You know what else is cruel? Establishments that call the cops if I tried to bring the cat with me, regardless of whether she's on a leash or in a carrier or whatever. Basically I can't take my cat to the vet in the summer without her suffering some form of cruelty. So when I ask questions that are meant to try and preserve her life, and hopefully make things more comfortable for her in the process, I'd really appreciate it if I wasn't treated like a scumbag. Thank you.

Thank you.
God that's one of the stupidest arguments I've ever heard, when you take it to the vet you drive it there, take it out of the car, finish your vet appointment, bring it right home. That's not endangering it especially if you have your AC unit on, but LEAVING the animal in the car is endangering it's life in that sort of heat. It's fairly obvious they're not just going to call the cops on you for carrying a cat to and from your car in some hot weather.
Or how about you just tell me so I don't have to take a chance and potentially risk my cat's life in the future.
It's not really safe for long, I know you're in WA and it doesn't get too hot here, but it still gets hot enough that it could kill your animals. It's best not to risk it, the only time I leave my dog in the car is at little stores / gas stations.
