Quebec Election 2014: Parti Quebecois soundly beaten as Liberals win majority

Nineteen months after they were ousted from power, the Liberals in Quebec will form the province's next majority government.
The Liberals took 70 seats in the 125 seat National Assembly, the Parti Québécois 30, the Coalition Avenir Québec 22 and Québec Solidaire three.
The Liberals entered this election campaign as the official opposition, but battled back from a public backlash and integrity questions that saw the province elect its first Parti Québécois minority government in the fall of 2012.
The election itself, called early by the PQ with majority hopes in sight, wasa gamble from the start — and it's one the party lost.
Pauline Marois, who lost her own seat in her Charlevoix–Côte-de-Beaupré riding, stepped down as party leader during an emotional concession speech in front of her supporters.
It was a clear message from Quebec voters that economic stability was more important than lingering questions about the party's integrity. And, that the population didn't want the divisive politics that emerged as a result of the PQ's proposed secular values charter.[/quote]
I had anticipated a PQ defeat, but I hadn't imagined it would be this overwhelming.
This is why you shouldn't call snap elections over contentious issues on the hope you'll win a majority, you usually won't.

Hey, they gamble and lose like this all the time in my part of the world too, so I can empathize, it happens at least one in every three elections at both the state and central level here. But truth be told, there's so much inefficiency and corruption that on average all you do is trade one evil for another for the most part in these parts.

Glad its finally over with. Fuck that ho.

Didn't Quebec just have an election last year?

Marois called an election I think as a last attempt to try and save her support to try and win majority, AFAIK they were beginning to drop very fast.

they were. She thought that she could get back a majority with a snap election and rallying the troops (ie. she got the media mogul billionaire Pierre Karl Péladeau to run for a seat in the legislature to get support which kind of backfired), but she and her party got too close to openly discussing separating + calling a referendum in public debates so a lot of people backed off and she lost quite a bit of support.

That and the whole 'let's ban civil servants from wearing religious symbols at work even if it means losing their jobs' thing kind of blew up in her face.
Pauline certainly wasn't very liked, the charter was very controversial, the corporate interest with PKP didn't help either, and she couldn't seem to pick a side regarding the separatist movement, so I'm not surprised that she lost.
But to the fucking Liberals?
They're corrupted out the ass and affiliated with the mafia, they're planning on literally destroying the environment with their pipeline and Plan Nord projects, they're gonna raise tuition fees again, and lower the taxes for big enterprises yet higher them for citizens.
What the fuck? People want this?
People seem to forget there's other parties available and/or they vote with the mentality that only the Liberals and the PQ can win. CAQ and QS might not be perfect but they really had something going for them. It's sad.
So now Quebec elected the greater evil, awesome.
At least replace it with a slightly lesser evil.
I live in Quebec.. I believe no one will ever want changes.. Its stupid to me to vote either Liberal or PQ both are corrupted to the bone and worships either labour unions or riches companies.
We spent tons of budget on useless things and sell our valuable resources extremely cheap meaning we don't make much money out of it.
So if you see the PLQ or PQ elected you know things are going bad.

Both of the parties here worship rich companies so at least you kind of have a choice.

I have to agree with you, some people are stuck voting for 2 bad guys.
I like that we have choices. I think we have like 5 or 6 parties but most people either vote for the two biggest ( PQ and PLQ )
worst is that we all know nothing will change and we will still be in trouble if one of both two get elected.
Darwinism at work?

If those things you said is true, then I feel like an idiot voting for liberals.

well they are, Charest shown it well last time. He don't care and so does the entire party. Even with a new leader, i doubt they will change anything
Maybe they will raise minimum wage when the elections are coming back in 4 years so they look nice making a nice pretty face in the media then shit on the population when they get elected again.
Now that Quebecers have elected the most corrupt party their province has ever seen just to avoid electing the racist party, maybe the rest of Canada will stop accusing Quebecers of being racist.
Look on a bright side Quebecers; at least Quebec won't be a country. If it is, the economy will collapse.
