In the ruling released Friday that was written by Justice Robin Hudson, the justice wrote that though legislators had a “laudable goal” when adopting the law it had the potential to “criminalize behavior that a robust contemporary society must tolerate because of the First Amendment, even if we do not approve of the behavior.”
I'm happy for all the teenagers in my state who will never have to be arrested for the words they say over the internet. This ruling proves that some people still care about First Amendment issues.
Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly did this, uh, bill, I guess, entail? You couldn't swear at someone over the internet, or what?
Thank god. This would have caused so much more problems than it solved. As much as I want to get rid of cyberbullying, this was too much.
