e House voted 225 to 201 Wednesday to sue President Obama for exceeding his executive authority, launching an unprecedented legal challenge by a congressional body against a president.
GOP leaders say the lawsuit is intended to restore balance between the executive and legislative branches. They accuse the Obama administration of repeatedly circumventing Congress to change existing laws.
Democrats call the suit a political stunt and say the president has resorted to using his executive powers because of congressional inaction and gridlock.
Wednesday’s vote only reinforced the growing distrust between Democrats and Republicans and became a partisan rallying cry for both parties.
That's rich
Once this doesn't work I heard their next plan is to throw their rattle on the floor and then throw up
Please fuck this up
So as an outsider looking in on US politics, this is pretty much the only thing I have heard that has been passed in the house for years. This is not a good sign is it surely.
I hope they are doing other things as well, but it seems (to me, again as an outsider looking in) that they have just spent a long time trying to kill Obama's healthcare bill and nothing else.

Probably 90% of the bullshit in American federal politics would no longer exist if they adopted a parliamentary system where the executive is formed from the primary legislature instead of having them completely separate.
Updated with article
Does US politics actually consist of something that isn't trying to impeach obama because [del]He's kenyan[/del], [del]he's muslim[/del], [del]he's a communist[/del], [del]he does too little[/del], [del]he does too much[/del], He's exceeding his constituonal power
Shouldn't the house have better things to do?
Shouldn't the house have better things to do?
Your implying that they do anything.
I'm starting to think that if you (for some reason) need to unite the Republicans in the US, just tell them Obama went on holiday with his family to Spain this week. They'll be so pissed that he's not doing his job that they wont actually check the factual accuracy and just try and impeach him anyway.
My God are they actually going through with this
Shouldn't the house have better things to do?
In the midst of a humanitarian crisis on our border and numerous international conflicts, no, launching a lawsuit they know is going to fail in order to stir up the far-right conservative voterbase ahead of midterm elections is more important.

A lawsuit that only 1/3rd of polled Americans support. Shouldn't the House be representing the people?

Instead, one strong arm party would get to push through whatever legislation it felt like and be backed up by the Executive office as well! :D
No, seriously. There's a reason why that idea was shot down during the drafting of the United States. The balance of power, and continuity of the system relies on a tension existing between the Judicial, Legislative and Executive offices. When you rebalance the equation by removing the tension the process begins to favor whoever-the-fuck happens to be in power. A good example of this is how badly Milk Snatcher Thatcher and her cronies trampled the opposition during her reign of terror over England.
It's not like the wonderful Anglo-colonies and Great Britain's parliaments don't have their own laughable political fuckups that are caused by their systems.
I don't think the founders of America accounted for complete asshats getting elected into congress

I don't think they accounted for a president who doesn't do his job.
The president's job is to faithfully execute all laws. He isn't faithfully executing laws, therefore, is not doing his job. If he wanted to write laws, he should have stayed a senator....
so they block the president from making any legislative moves,
then complain when he tries to go around the roadblock?
politics.

Well if I set up a roadblock I would not appreciate people driving on the pavement to go around it.

The Supreme Court disagrees.

The constitution calls on the President to introduce bills to congress 'from time to time' which is pretty darned flexible. It doesn't say they don't introduce any bills.
For the last 100 years or so, they've been a pretty big source of legislature, in fact. That's every president since FDR, Republicans and Democrats. There have been bigger reforms than Obamacare that were introduced by the President.
I don't think the founders of America accounted for complete asshats getting elected into congress
You obviously haven't read much American history.
The very first congress had plenty of it's own problems to deal with. In fact, the entire reason they made the system so "inefficient" and slow was to help counteract emotional outbursts, flavor of the month politics, and "assholes" having a lot of power on their own.

Of course, but nowhere does it state that he can change or enact law WITHOUT congress. That is not his job. Congress is the only people who can change or enact law. When he changed parts of the ACA via executive order, that can be seen as not faithfully executing the law and overstepping his constitutional powers. So while he can introduce bills or suggest bills, he can't legally do anything to pass or change law unilaterally without congress.

"A presidential executive order is a directive issued to federal agencies, department heads, or other federal employees by the President of the United States under his statutory or constitutional powers...While they do bypass the U.S. Congress and the standard legislative law making process, no part of an executive order may direct the agencies to conduct illegal or unconstitutional activities."
I'm pretty sure executive order is a constitutional power of the president.
It is. It's just that the GOP is whiny that there's a way to effectively drive around a giant cow patty that is themselves.

I know what an executive order is. This doesn't mean that a president can write or change law using one. That's not under his statutory or constitutional powers.
Also, instructing agencies to ignore enforcing laws isn't faithfully executing laws, which is what he's supposed to be doing......
I know what an executive order is. This doesn't mean that a president can write or change law using one.
that's exactly what it means

so you want him to enfore the DOMA? and invalidate every gay marriage in the country?
I want to know exactly what they're getting pissy about.
Because I support throwing the fuckface out of office for the Snowden affairs, but if it's just some stupid anti-gay or anti-having some fucking healthcare thing, fuck off.
remember that executive orders have the power to decide how and what degree laws can be enforced
basically if obama's like 'yo let that colorado weed shit pass' the dea can't really break his orders
I find it funny how at the very least 226 people can't understand this

The house is mostly GOP controlled, and they pretty much support coming down on Snowden as hard as possible, so it's probably just something stupid and related to gay marriage or Benghazi.
