Cancer-Causing Compound From Cigarettes Found In Fried Foods

More bad news from the FDA. Turns out frying, baking or roasting certain foods causes the formation of acrylamide, a carcinogen found in cigarette smoke. Why does death always have to taste so good?

Honestly I am not at all suprised
Why pick on French fries of all holy things?
Everything seems to cause cancer nowadays.
Living gives you cancer
I would like to know how much "acrylamide" the average fried food has compared to the amount in a cigarette.
What doesn't give you cancer now? Shouldn't be a shock when another thing has something to cause cancer in it.
The greatest cause of death is living.
In fact the death rate from living is 100%.
baking? What so simply applying heat to something causes cancer.
It's pretty stupid that moths are attracted to the lights, the very thing that kills them.
Anyways, who is up for some delicious fried food and copious amounts of alcohol?
I already thought that eating too many fried food caused cancer. But knowing they know more about it and are actively trying t do something about it is nice.

life: not even once
Everything causes cancer. Fuck cancer.
Disposing of some of the sensationalism here:
Acrylamide forms in food due to a reaction between the amino acid asparagine and reducing sugars such as glucose and fructose. The formation of acrylamide is part of the Maillard reaction, which leads to browning and flavor changes in cooked foods. Acrylamide formation occurs primarily at elevated cooking temperatures used when frying or baking (above 120 °C) and in low moisture conditions.
[...] FDA scientists estimate that the average U.S. consumer’s intake of acrylamide is 0.4 microgram/kilogram body weight/day (µg/kg-bw/d), while international estimates for the average consumer ranged from 0.2 to 1.4 µg/kg-bw/d as of 2005.
[...]Acrylamide in food is a concern because it has been found to be carcinogenic in rodents and is therefore considered a potential carcinogen for humans. A major international evaluation of acrylamide by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) in 2005 concluded that the levels of acrylamide in food were of concern, given the carcinogenicity rates seen in rodents. Acrylamide is also a known human neurotoxicant and animal reproductive and developmental toxicant. However, acrylamide is considered unlikely to have neurological, reproductive or developmental effects at the levels encountered in human foods, although more research is being carried out in these areas.
tl;dr: It's unlikely to cause cancer at average intakes, and is a concern as it caused cancer in rodent models. Further research will tell us more.

Eating fried food in amounts large enough to give you cancer is probably going to give you a heart attack quite some time before that happens.
This has been known for more than 10 years, it was a huge topic in the news in Germany years ago but quickly died down.

it's by far the worst STD
if only more people wore condoms - far fewer people would get living
As long as you take it with moderation, you will have slightly higher chance of cancer on one side and better mood and psychological wellbeing (from eating tasty food) on the other side, and it's well known that depression and such can literally kill you.
Just don't eat fries every day and have them only now and then and you will be healthier than if you spent half of your day worrying what you can and can't do to stay healthy.
If you read the FDA link, it says this same chemical is also formed during baking and roasting meats. Basically, the chemical forms when sugars and amino acids are exposed to high levels of heat; it's likely that this chemical is present in pretty much everything we eat since we cook almost everything nowadays.
Live well eat healthy die anyway

More like that.

But wait... (Nigh) everyone lives... and living as a whole hasn't died. (Yet)
Quit eating that fried chicken, Those'll kill you.
Everything seems to cause cancer nowadays.
That's probably why cancer rates are as high as they are.
Fuck it, I'm not gonna go out of my way to avoid these. They might as well make a list called "what causes cancer" and put everything I love in the world on it.
