• Two killed in Quebec after driver stops for ducks
MONTREAL — A man in his 50s and his 16-year-old daughter were killed after their motorcycle struck a car in front of them that had stopped so the driver could let a family of ducks pass in the road on Montreal’s South Shore. A woman in her 40s, the teen’s mother, was seriously injured when her motorcycle hit the same car. She was listed in stable condition Monday morning, Quebec provincial police Sgt. Richard Gagne said. All three were wearing helmets. The accident occurred about 7:20 p.m. on Sunday on Highway 30 in Candiac — about 30 kilometres south of Montreal. A woman stopped her car in the middle of the road to allow some ducks to pass in the roadway, Sgt. Gagne said. The teenager’s mother, riding on one motorcycle behind the car, and her husband and the couple’s daughter on another motorcycle, “didn’t have time to react” and veer away, he added. The father died right away and his daughter succumbed to her injured during the night, Sgt. Gagne said. The driver of the car was not hurt. Sgt. Gagne said she may face charges in the case. “One thing is for sure, it is forbidden to immobilize your vehicle in the middle of the road unless it is an extreme emergency,” he said. When good intentions go wrong...
Sweet fucking jesus that's horrible
Oh...oh god. People died for DUCKS. :ohdear:
So it's forbidden to immobilize your vehicle in the middle of a road? So you're telling me if you see a dog in the middle of the road you can't stop, just run him over? That's a bit of a dick move.
Dumb bitch cost 2 peoples lives and horribly disrupted another for some god damn ducks.

You're meant to drive with a large enough gap so that you have time to react if the car in front of you does something unpredictable. It is a reason why you have to learn the emergency stop. I am not saying it is their fault I am just wondering aloud why they were not able to react in time? This is awful to hear though like dutchah said "when good intentions go wrong." :smith:
For some reason I was totally expecting the "two killed" to be the ducks.
Motorcycles are more difficult to safely stop if I remember correctly
My question is, how fast must the biker have been travelling to not have time to stop? I mean, the car surely didn't just come to an instant stop? It sounds like it was stopped and the biker came round a corner or something... IMO it seems like the biker was too fast or too close.
That's weird, my mum was driving me home last night and this family of about seven kittens was trying to cross the road. It was an empty road, so needless to say she let them.
For them to not have time to react they must have been driving extremely close to that car. That poor women, lost her daughter an husband :frown: She must be so depressed
This thread made me very :frown:.
Motorcycles are more difficult to safely stop if I remember correctly
In a straight line it isn't hard to emergency stop, although it's harder than in a car .You need to balance your front and back brakes to get the best result from the bike & most of your weight shifts onto your arms (not so bad in cruisers). You could also lift your back wheel off the ground but I've never managed to do that. Also most bikes don't have ABS although it's getting more and more popular (I've had a bike with combined ABS - it also balanced your braking, fucking nice). Also, cars with good brakes will out-brake motorcycles & it depends what kind of motorcycles they were riding; there's a fucking dumb fashion of removing front brakes on choppers despite ~75% of your braking is done on them. Sounds like they were either too close or not paying enough attention. Both sides were at probably at fault.
The ducks made it?
The ducks made it?
Being prosecuted along with the driver of the car :v:
This thread is just depressing.

They should've ducked [editline]04:04PM[/editline] v:v:v
They will never be able to look at ducks again without breaking down and crying.
I'm pretty sure here in the US rear endings are always the trailing parties fault. You're supposed to follow at a distance that allows you to stop in time in case of emergencies. I mean, it's a shame they died, but the whole "didn't have time to react" thing is bullshit. That's their fault. Edit: And yes, I realize it's not the US, but I'm just stating that.
A dog dies or a person dies. Make your choice.
Let the game begin! On the "stop for a dog" subject. i know it's a thumb rule, if not a law not to stop for anything smaller than a deer or human.

Is it just me or is this the sort of thing that happens in a cyanide and happiness video?
While it might not have been a great idea to stop for the ducks, the motorcyclists shouldn't have been so close that they couldn't stop if the car in front of them made an emergency stop. They're at fault, and now the driver of the car has to deal with the guilt of the motorcyclists' deaths.
The motorcycle drivers had to be going pretty damn fast for them both to die.
They would have probably survived if they had been in a car. There's a fucking reason motorcycles are called widow makers.
Motorcycles are more difficult to safely stop if I remember correctly
You just have to watchout you don't fly over the handlebars and shift your weight accordingly, otherwise it shouldn't be a problem.
What happened to the ducks? It's horrible that they died, but it doesn't even tell us if the ducks survived. At least if they survived the two didn't die for nothing.
