The latest Geminoid robot is one of the most realistic, and thus creepiest, android we've ever seen.
The skin, hair, goatee (!), and facial expressions are real enough to fool you for a few seconds while
it sinks in that something very, very weird is going on.
This specific model is called the Geminoid DK, and it comes from the same studio that gave us the
robotic actress, Geminoid F. The DK is the first Geminoid model that's based on a non-Japanese
person (in this case, Associate Professor Henrik Scharfe of Denmark's Aalborg University) and also the
first bearded model (if you consider a goatee a beard, which in my full-bearded opinion is debatable).

Like its Geminoid siblings, the DK is controlled remotely with a motion-capture system in which the
Geminoid mimics the movements of the person being captured. Future uses are kind of secondary
to the basic goal of making the most human-like robot possible, but it could be a step forward for
human-robot interaction--paired with, say, Watson's brain, the Geminoid series could be used in
some pretty interesting ways. That being said, here's a terrifying picture of the Geminoid's hair-
and pupil-less visage.

I'm not sure why, but it seems to me that those eyes look really out of place.
Can you fuck it?
Don't worry guys we have dogs to spot them!

For christs sake...
It's Japan, of course you can fuck it!
You know that thing robotics experts like to refer to? The Uncanny Valley?
This dives off the far end, slams straight into the deepest part, gets a backhoe and keeps digging straight down.

I KNEW I had seen that face before.
have been at one of his lectures 2 years ago.
I don't find this creepy at all. He just needs less rubbery skin, some wrinkles, and he's all set.
Robot clones anyone?
I know it's stupid but all I can think when I see the video is "disgusting"
:(
There's something about it that just gives a lifeless feeling. Still kind of cool, but creepy nonetheless.
Those movements are too fast.
I wonder how long it will take until your average Joe can afford a sex robot, making women obsolete.
It looks like something straight out of a sci-fi, something CGI-made
Amazing we're reaching the point in time where even I'll be able to score something (guessing they'll make a female version :smug:)
It's a nice mechanical face, but as long as it needs a human to make those faces it's not really anything special.
I would find it really interesting if there was intelligent AI behind those eyes.
I freaked when it closed its eyes and then smiled/grinned

A male robot dick wouldn't be hard to make
This is so creepy.
A step in the direction of creepy, uncomfortable moral dilemmas.
That's pretty fucking awesome. Shame it can't actually do much though.
Oh god why do they have to make robots seem human, WHY?
I'd much more prefer a metallic robot with some human nature
His eyes look "anime" or "kawaii" so to say.
They really look out of place
Megaman X is becoming close to reality. All this robot need is an extremely advance Ai capable of behaving like a normal human being.
Oh, god. The comments on this video.
why has this guy filmed himself blinking and pulling stupid faces and why the fuck does it have 160,000 views????
The uncanny valley... IT BURNS! :gonk:
Doesn't look like a human, but they're definetly getting closer.
I don't see the uncanny valley you guys are talking about, he could pass for a human if he didn't blink as much.
Japan, stop making robots that try to look like something real, and get to work on making robots that value function over form.
Rule 34.
I see it coming.
