The US state department has said it is issuing a global travel alert because of an unspecified al-Qaeda threat.
In a statement, the department said the potential for an attack is particularly strong in the Middle East and North Africa.
The move comes shortly after the US announced the closure of embassies in the region on Sunday.
The alert expires on 31 August 2013, the department said. It recommended US citizens travelling abroad be vigilan
Dammit SGTNAPALM now I'll have to travel to cuba
This is when the terrorists have won. When we are so afraid of everything they say and every threat they make that mere words can control our lives. We are loosing the war on terror.

I don't think so. We're just putting our guard up until we can figure out how to assess the situation.
'yeah there might be a threat somewhere round here, y'know, somewhere in about a quarter of the world's landmass - it might hit or not hit any time from today til the end of the year, unless it doesn't'
real good intelligence there US

Uh hold your horses there we don't even know why they issued the alert
it's region-wide and they're keeping a tight lid on it, you really think it's because they got an angry email from someone who calls themselves al Qaeda?

it's not like they're gonna go out and say "hey flight 913 out of saudi arabia is going to have a bomb, terrorists please change plans"

If that's what it turned out to be, I wouldn't be very surprised.

I don't understand this. The terrorists win because the State Department has decided to warn people of a possible threat? People throw around 'the terrorists win because x' too much.

people think the terrorist's goal was to make the US a police state
those people are idiots
I was browsing 4chan earlier, and a guy from a detachment of marines that works to protect foreign diplomats was saying they got around 20 calls to move into the ambassadors in both Israel and Jordan, And when they got to the ambassadors, they found out that they didn't even know, but that the military called them to be there.
This coming from 4chan though, I don't know how reliable it is
This is the thread,

Half the idiots who say stuff like that probably haven't even read what their stated goals which they have so far failed spectacularly in. Many of their goals have completed backfired in their face. The terrorists didn't win anything.

just making fun of an easy target, no need to take it seriously :)

By their goals, no. But by the definition of the name, they accomplished their goals; widespread terror and fear of everyday things and events that drove us to do things we shouldn't have, and get embroiled in a war that wasn't ours
There is an alleged email going out to ambassadors especially in kuwait.
U.S. Embassy Kuwait
Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens – August 1, 2013
The Department of State has instructed certain U.S. Embassies and Consulates to remain closed or to suspend operations on Sunday, August 4. The Department has been apprised of information that, out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting our installations, indicates we should institute these precautionary steps. It is possible we may have additional days of closings as well, depending on our analysis. Accordingly, the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait will be closed on Sunday, August 4.
All U.S. citizen services appointments and visa appointments have been cancelled and have been rescheduled on an individual basis. For further information, please contact the Consular Section at consularkuwaitm@state.gov.
The Department, when conditions warrant, takes steps like this to balance our continued operations with security and safety. However, beyond this announcement we do not discuss specific threat information, security considerations or measures, or other steps we may be taking.
For further information, we refer you to the Worldwide Caution put out by the Department dated February 19, 2013, repeated below:

This issue really isn't the best example. It's that just by making a vague threat terrorists can cause us to do so much. Look at airport security, NSA privacy invasions, the patriot act, and everything else that has spawned as a result of 9/11. Before that almost no one knew or cared about islamic terrorists. Attention like this is exactly what they want.

So they are the worlds biggest trolls?

Yeah, attention which has caused them to be targeted by drones and to have their religious beliefs viewed with prejudice.
They sure are winning aren't they.

It's Ramadan currently. Attacks from Al-Qaeda tend to increase during this time/after the month.

Ahh yes this makes sense due to their hunger
This is the part where the government walls you all in.
Stay vigilan, stay watchan, stay safan.
Comin' straight at ya from the US embassy.
Well well, lets wait for the attack tomorrow. Time for some media hype.
If it expires on that date then it means that they aren't considering what is going to happen in 53 days.
