Iraq's wave of bloodshed sharply escalated Monday with more than a dozen car bombings across the country, part of attacks that killed at least 95 people and brought echoes of past sectarian carnage and fears of a dangerous spillover from Syria's civil war next door. The latest spiral of violence — which has claimed more than 240 lives in the past week — carries the hallmarks of the two sides that brought nearly nonstop chaos to Iraq for years: Sunni insurgents, including al-Qaida's branch in Iraq, and Shiite militias defending their newfound power after Saddam Hussein's fall. But the widening shadow and regional brinksmanship from Syria's conflict now increasingly threaten to feed into Iraq's sectarian strife, heightening concerns that Iraq could be turning toward civil war.
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/iraq-car-bombs-basra-kill-10-people-19214253#.UZqz5bVwocw
that's sad... damn, whose sayin' Iraq was back on its feet? Top Gear did that special a few years back and seemed like there was no hostility at all. Recently it fell even deeper into this crisis.
It's so sad this kind of news is just an every day kind of thing.

(sorry for the earlier post) [editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
They didn't, infact they've been saying the opposite since the country is about to erupt into a civil war
At the time I meant.

TE Lawrence thought he would try to unify the Islamic sects but his shortsightedness created a powderkeg that the world has to deal with today.
240 people in 7 days, that's unreal.
I love how we shut our country down for the boston bombing which killed huh, what, 3 fucking people yet this gets 0 attention fuck the media
Who in their right mind would still be living there? I can understand if people are too poor to move out, but if that's the case then just start a farm somewhere, get the hell away from all of the people that are clearly out to specifically kill you. That whole area has been racked with war after war for decades now, clearly if you have any hope of either living past 50 or having a family the best thing to do is just run away.
