The boys, aged eight and nine, were filmed wrestling in a cage at a labour club in Preston in front of about 250 adults on 10 September. Lancashire Police were investigating but have now said there were "no issues" for officers to pursue. Spokesman for Sharefight Company which filmed event A video posted on YouTube showed the boys had no protective padding or head gear at the event at Greenlands Labour Club. They were also seen receiving medical attention. 'Share the shock' "Getting more young people doing sport is great but I do ask myself whether it really does have to be in a cage," Mr Hunt said. "It just feels to me, it feels very barbaric and I know there are concerns about children that young doing a sport like that. "I think if adults choose to do it, that's one thing. I suppose I do share some of the shock." Nick Hartley said the fight was "not one bit dangerous" Asked whether he was surprised to hear there were no restrictions on children appearing in such an environment, he said: "I am surprised to hear that. "We don't want to discourage children from doing sport and particularly young boys with all the social problems that we were thinking about in the summer. "We have to recognise that sport has a very, very important role but I think with this particular sport, I think some people will ask some questions." Club manager Michelle Anderson, 39, earlier said the boys were not cage-fighting but "grappling". She said the boys "loved it" and were not in danger. 'Controlled sport' The father of one of the boys, Nick Hartley, said his son had not been at risk "He loves the sport. It's not one bit dangerous, it's a controlled sport," he said. But the activity has been criticised by children's charity the NSPCC. Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the event felt "very barbaric" It said the the fight was "disturbing" and warned parents against allowing youngsters to take part in this sort of sport while they were developing. The British Medical Association (BMA) said sports such as boxing and cage-fighting were "sometimes defended on the grounds that children learn to work through their aggression with discipline and control". But it said many other sports, such as athletics, swimming, judo and football, "require discipline but do not pose the same threat of brain injury". Sharefight, the company commissioned to video the event, said the video had been on the internet for two weeks without complaint. 'Like chess' It was taken down on Wednesday "out of respect" for parents and others who had shown concern, a spokesman said. He said the event had taken place in a "safe environment" and under strict conditions. "What took place was safer than what happens in judo clubs and rugby training grounds up and down the country," he said. "People are reacting to the negative stereotype around cage-fighting and the setting within a cage, but a cage makes it safer for the participant because it stops them falling from the ring. "The event involving the children was submission wrestling. Contact between the participants was restricted at all times. "I would liken it to a game of chess, it's about outsmarting your opponent rather than overcoming them." What the christ, who would do that?
Spiderman did that in high school.

Only in Lancashire.
wrestling is fake anyway
wrestling is fake anyway
Did you even watch the video? this looks more like MMA, the kid did a fucking armbar on his opponent.
Did you even watch the video? this looks more like MMA, the kid did a fucking armbar on his opponent.
I feel as though this whole incident is blown out of proportion. They were not sent to the hospital.
I don't see anything wrong with this.
Atleast we know where School Bullies to go in their spare time.
It's a sport. People are over-reacting.
If kicking and punching were allowed, that's a different story.
I see nothing wrong with this.
This is fine, kids already fight in karate and what not, it's just the press making everyone scared by using the word "cage".
The narrator's voice annoys me
What is wrong here? I don't understand. There was a medical professional there, and I didn't see any blood or kicking. What would you rather they did, go hanging around the streets?
That's pretty much just jiu-jitsu. Little kids do jits all the time. Go to a jits tournament and you'll see elementary school aged kids doing that all over the place with adults watching. The only difference here is that it was done in an octagon, which doesn't change the sport at all.
tbh i don't get the big problem with this this wrestling looks way safer than the crazy as fuck tae kwon do tournaments i've seen kids as young as 6 involved in. the kids have no control and technique and just go mental punching each other in the face these kids look really skilled and controlled and in a pretty decently controlled environment
This is cagefighting. What those kids are doing seems pretty safe in comparison.
Yeah them kids should be in jail for wrestling, we gotta pussify men.
Its not like kids fight every day and its recorded, atleast they had people looking over them and they had medical assistance if they really needed it
Someone tell me how wrestling is barbaric. In all honesty I think it was called barbaric because it was done in a cage (which contrary to popular belief is NOT made out of barbed wire and is in fact there for the fighters' safety). If it was done on a tatami I doubt such a thing would be said. It sickens me that "cage-fighting" still has such a bad reputation. It does not deservee it - especially when the people that condemn it are so fucking hypocritical.
it's weird, but they act like they're starving the kids and throwing them into a cage to fight over scraps.
Well as long as it's managed properly I don't see the problem with this. It's not like they're breaking bones or anything.
Hey, I did mixed martial arts when I was younger. I was pefectly fine. If the kids are fine with it, there's a medical team near at all times, they aren't just there to beat the crap out of each-other (actually using the combat to better themselves in real situations, like actual training), and nobody's watching just to see kids whail on other kids, then it's all fine with me. Just make sure it's as clean as can be. [editline]22nd September 2011[/editline]
it's weird, but they act like they're starving the kids and throwing them into a cage to fight over scraps.
I thought it would be when I read the thread's title. I remember a school that did something similar to this - only they got the stronger kids to beat up the weaker ones in an actual cage as a form of detention. Or something like that, I really didn't want to remember the details.
In some South-American country people actually put their kids in illegal fight clubs to get some money, I thought this would be like that too.
All British people are bloodthirsty what is wrong with British society it's all their fault and they're evil and stuff.
As I recall the only reason this is being investigated is because of concerns over the fact that the kids weren't wearing any safety gear. It's a legitimate sport and the venue had the appropriate licenses and stuff for the kids to be doing that. The media is just blowing it out of proportion and calling it a 'cage match' to make it sound violent and scary when it really isn't.
What the christ, who would do that?
Savages
When I heard this on the news this morning, without seeing the video, I thought it was some underground club where children are kidnapped then forced to fight in a bloodstained cage
