Defence Secretary Michael Fallon told the BBC "any future and possible threats" to the islands had to be taken into account. ... It comes amid reports in the Sun newspaper that Russia is planning to lease 12 long-range bombers to the government in Buenos Aires, raising fears they could be used to support a renewed attack. Argentina lays claim to the islands, which it calls the Malvinas, but Mr Fallon said the claim had "no basis in international law" and should be withdrawn. Asked about the reports of an arms deal with Russia, Mr Fallon told BBC Radio 4's Today programme they had "not been confirmed".
Take the last paragraph with a heavy pinch of salt because so far it's only a red top reporting it, but if that does turn out to be true, Fuck right off Russia.
Make the island a bomb The entire island.
Make the island a bomb The entire island.
They should just trasnform the entire island into a massive army/navy/airforce base used for training and storage of long term surplus, turning it into a massive singularity of arms and trained personnel. If Argentia tries anything it would be just extended training.
Ha, if the Argies took long range bombers to the Falklands they would be fucking eviscerated before they know what hit them, it'll be like when the fucking meteor hits Beunos Aires in Starship Troopers except everyone will be talking about how they own Las Malvinas and that the UK should stop being so mean and give back their island.
Are they going to send Clarkson?
Argentina is shitting their pants right now I know it. Their modern military probably couldn't even beat the old defenses still, much less anything added.
Are they going to send Clarkson?
Zombie Thacher, with an anti-exocet haircut.

Retaking it would be virtually impossible without help.
You could say that, I mean, you would be extremely wrong but you can say that.
We already have an agreement to borrow one from France. So, we kinda do have one.
Are they going to send Clarkson?
oh my god i've figured it out the entire fracas was a conspiracy to free Jezza up to come and whip some argie ass
You could say that, I mean, you would be extremely wrong but you can say that.
I'm sure I've heard that before in a movie, or something similar. That's going to rack my brain all day
While i love our armed forces, the lack of Aircraft carriers in active service is a colossal oversight which puts us in a really shit position to defend the island. Retaking it would be virtually impossible without help.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm reasonably surebif our islands where under attack then our allies would offer their support enough that we would have all the ships and aircraft we would ever need.
We already have an agreement to borrow one from France. So, we kinda do have one.
Exactly, we fucking basically timeshare an aircraft carrier. I mean, fucking seriously? We each get 3 days a week and we alternate Sundays.
Exactly, we fucking basically timeshare an aircraft carrier. I mean, fucking seriously? We each get 3 days a week and we alternate Sundays.
We have an agreement to borrow it for any length of time for any time it requires use. That's a very good deal. Besides, what is our current governments idea? Let's have TWO brand new aircraft carriers.. with zero planes for them. Genius!

Genius!
I really think getting rid of the harrier was a piss poor idea, especially when the plan was to replace it with the F-35 which costs a despicable amount of cash. I'm not saying it's a bad deal by the way, as far as things go it's pretty solid but that doesn't change the fact it's still better to have our own carriers and craft on them.
oh my god i've figured it out the entire fracas was a conspiracy to free Jezza up to come and whip some argie ass
Nobody would mess with the Falklands under risk of fracas.

I'm sure if you ask real nice the US would give you one. We have like, what? At least 7. This is what the US should be doing with our horribly large military complex, selling our selves out as defensive contractors.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm reasonably surebif our islands where under attack then our allies would offer their support enough that we would have all the ships and aircraft we would ever need.
In an ideal world that would be the case, but in the Falklands V1 we was all but hung out to dry by our Allies, the US included. So there is precedent. Obviously times and governments change so I'm not saying we wouldn't get help, and as already stated we do have the right to 'borrow' Carriers, but it's really not the same as controlling your own fleet.

They're more badass and using them to beat back the Argentinians would speak volumes as to how pointless their squabble truly is.
The United States wouldn't be the worlds sole superpower without a huge military.
That's the thing, have them still be stationed by US soldiers.
Nah. Spitfires. They're more badass and using them to beat back the Argentinians would speak volumes as to how pointless their squabble truly is.
The Seafire is just a navalised version of the Spitfire...
If the Argies don't do anything for the next few years, the odds of an Argentinian invasion are going to plummet like a rock anyway Once the HMS Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier and F-35 shipment to go with it are in service (I believe both should be done by at least 2020?) we'll have the capability to rip the Argentinian airforce a new asshole
Eh, I'm sure we've got a carrier or two just sitting idle somewhere nearby.
We have 1 left, but that's only because it hasn't been scrapped yet, it's been decommissioned and not in active service, there's currently no aircraft in service that can operate from it even if we did rush it back into service (we entirely depends on weither or not it's been gutted of it's computers / engines ect). So technically we do still have a carrier, but in reality we don't. We do have 1 amphibious assault ship in service that looks similar but it's a helicopter carrier.
I always find it a bit weird that only the US navy builds proper aircraft carriers, everyone else has those STOL configurations and they run on gas turbines
They're ridiculously expensive, and everyone else figures they can just call us for backup if they really need one. The fuckers are mooching off of us.
