Not an innovation really...
75GBP is like 120USD, this isn't really affordable since you can get HDMI screens shipped from China with higher resolution for less, including shipping
Have you got a link to one at that kind of size?
I think HDMPi would've been a better name

The first is more expensive while smaller and same resolution, the later is smaller as well and doesn't say resolution at all.
£75 isn't bad for an actual HDMI monitor, if the panel isn't glossy i'd use it for video monitoring.

This argument is the same as saying the raspberry pi isn't really an innovation because there are already smaller computers on the market.
The point here is to have an HD pi, the point of the Pi is to bring affordable tiny pc's to the market for general use. You can already and have already been able to do what you want to do with a pi with a standard computer using microatx but the price (and size) is still a major factor.
What you linked here, doesn't accomplish the exact same thing really. The first one is too expensive to be viable as before and after shipping it's already more expensive, adding a pi on top of a 130 dollar screen. The second one seems more viable, however, it neglects to mention the actual resolution, it's not a self contained unit, and given the fact that its intended purpose is just a backup camera, you can sure as hell bet that the actual specs of the monitor are rather drab and unimpressive.

bigger resolution =/= better display. Sure i can buy a 1080 screen from some chinese site but while the resolution is 1080, the actual specs, contrast ratio, and display is almost guaranteed to be subpar.
i guess it depends on your application. i just use ssh to connect to my raspberry pi so i don't use a monitor with it at all.
an lcd with chewing gum stuck to the bottom...
Raspberry Pi is solid but this is a joke.
I'd like a small (9-11.6) inch 1080p monitor just to sit next to my main and display bits and bobs that I like to keep tabs on.
Shame they couldn't manage to make it actually 1920x1080.

You do know that is a prototype, right?

Clearly they're going to ship each one with a piece of chewing gum on it. Ignore the "prototype" in each picture, that's how they're going to ship.
I mean, seriously. Most of the bundles don't come with cases for the panel. Fuck, we don't even know what the case looks like yet.

AND YOU, MERGE-BUSTER. I'LL DEAL WITH YOU LATER.
Ahh i'm kidding you're cool.
but merge breaking isn't.

it's just a cheap monitor, marketing it just for the Pi is kind of useless.
What if folk have a portable media box like the WDTV thing.

Its marketed just for the pi because the idea was conceived... for the pi. They're not saying its not meant for anything else, but it was designed because of it.
[editline]4th November 2013[/editline]
And if they have a WDTV, then fuckin why not? Use this with that. What's your point?

Nothing, just wanted to know what originality this has over other cheap led monitors.
I guess the chewing gum thing is kind of neat, while watching a movie, I can grab a stick without having to pause...

Its very likely not chewing gum, so unless the vid that I can't watch because my connection here is dumb shows him spitting it out and sticking it there then I'm gonna wager its clay or putty or something else not covered in lots of moisture and cooties.

The formfactor is designed specifically with the pi and it's hdmi port location in mind.
Any more information on it besides resolution? Is it going to be an IPS panel?
The formfactor is designed specifically with the pi and it's hdmi port location in mind.
if they could house the screen with the pi that would be really good, and the chewing gum dispenser would be a bonus ;)
Went and pledged for the £128 deal, I've been wanting to get a screen for my pi for a while. Might even double up well as a portable second monitor for a laptop.
