The Dead or Alive series has often come under fire for its sexualised female character designs and "boob physics" sliders. ...In response to a question on Facebook about a Western release of Xtreme 3, a representative for Koei Tecmo said that "we do not bring DOAX3 to the west and won't have any plan change in the future." When asked why this was the case, Koei Tecmo had this to say: "Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry? We do not want to talk those things here. But certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision."
Its kinda shameful that we have companies afraid to release games in the west because of this puritanical mindset. First it was the religious right, now its people that treat women like pretty flowers in the name of equality.
Fucking disgusting. And you KNOW none of the people who would be offended by it would buy or play the game to begin with so why give a fuck?
Fucking disgusting. And you KNOW none of the people who would be offended by it would buy or play the game to begin with so why give a fuck?
Because its not woth the massive headache induced pr nightmare.
see third-wave feminists wont take your games away because they made sure it wont even get here in the first place
I doubt DOA does well anyway. I don't know a single person who plays these games, or anyone who spoke well of the last DOA game (especially on PC). I literally only see people talk about the boobs of DOA. Nothing of value lost here.
The Previous DOA Beach game sold more in the US than Japan http://www.vgchartz.com/game/481/dead-or-alive-xtreme-2/
Yeah, infact I think most, if not all, DOA games have sold better in the west than in Japan.
I literally only see people talk about the boobs of DOA.
(old quote warning)
Well no. Sexualizing females for male audiences is not sexist. Sexualizing male characters for female audiences isn't sexist either. Not to mention gay audiences, etc. Stop demonizing sex in the name of being progressive.
Why are you so against sexualized characters? I don't get it.
The Previous DOA extreme game sold more in the US than Japan http://www.vgchartz.com/game/481/dead-or-alive-xtreme-2/
Wow, that's honestly surprising. But still, a game selling .14m in the US and having an average of 56 metascore doesn't really say much. I don't think nearly a decade without one of these games has helped the opinion of them. Sounds like it's probably not worth bothering with. [editline]24th November 2015[/editline]
(old quote warning) Why are you so against sexualized characters? I don't get it.
Me? I'm not. This series just sucks. You can check out 3D boobs elsewhere or go play the old ones and last year's DOA.

If I can't sexualize these virtual women, then I'm going to sexualize real women. I might even commit a few crimes
if u never saw anyone play/talk about the game, how can u saw people talk about boobs in the game???
I have never met anyone in person, or have seen anyone online even discuss these as games. I have only seen people talk about the boobs for this upcoming one and shit from years ago about the boobs in the old ones. But I was told the problematic games weren't going to be taken away!
But I was told the problematic games weren't going to be taken away!
Just ignore the SJWs. Don't feed them and they'll go away...
But I was told the problematic games weren't going to be taken away!
They aren't taking away games. However companies are self-censoring despite the fact that these people generally have no interest in their games in the first place.
Alright, that was passive aggressive. I'm not even being rude, but hardly anyone in the world according to sales figures and from "man on the streets" perspective seems to give a shit about this game. I hardly doubt this had much to do with SJW (DOA still makes it over, other games too) bullshit and moreso with Tecmo trying to save face and money by slowly abandoning a franchise that was niche to begin with.
No guys see, it's not self censorship! They're just making the choice not to offend people, big difference. These sjws radical feminists what ever you want call it are a cancer to the industry. I fucking bet the people who create this back lash are just like, lol who cares it's a boobs porn game, we're improving the industry!
I personally don't care if the game comes out or not but I kind of raise my eyebrow over how people constantly talk about how devs should be able to do what they want, but the moment it's a choice like this, people lose their shit regardless - Surely you should respect their choice, whether or not you agree with it?

We're just supposed to sit and respect the fact developers get bullied into self censorship because it's their "choice?" Get real.
you can still get it imported and have a perfectly functional english language koei have no spine and are a shitty publisher anyhow, see: anything they publish on steam being a godawful port with less features than any console version
Nowhere near the point, this a terrible precedent. We have literally reached the point where all these complaints about representation of women has made a developer not release their game in the states out of fear. Like fuck the artistic self censorship and "localization," we now have entire games not reaching our market strictly out of fear.
literally any other fighting game can have this shit and no one important gives a fuck otherwise things like street fighter, mk, and skullgirls wouldn't sell like hotcakes
What in the hell is that supposed to mean? You honestly think I'm upset because a tits and ass game got removed and I'm just looking for some porn?
you can still get it imported and have a perfectly functional english language option/localization koei have no spine and are a shitty publisher anyhow, see: anything they publish on steam being a godawful port with less features than any console version [editline]24th November 2015[/editline] literally any other fighting game can have this shit and no one important gives a fuck otherwise things like street fighter, mk, and skullgirls wouldn't sell like hotcakes
this isn't even a fighting game, it's a collection of minigames with dressup and tits you'd have a better time googling 'dead or alive porn'
I'm not going to be pissed off about a game I wasn't going to buy anyway. However, there is no good reason why this game shouldn't be localised. Except when they think it wouldn't sell here, which I doubt.
They literally made the choice out of fear and you expect people to sit down and just accept it? We're just supposed to sit and respect the fact developers get bullied into self censorship because it's their "choice?" Get real.
I totally get what you're saying but isn't it kind of an assumption that they were bullied into self-censorship? Like, I don't know this series very well but I'm assuming there's been multiple games over the years? I just sort of feel like if they had actually been pressured into this, it would have happened already
no, what im saying is you can keep publishing games with sexy anime babes and still sell fairly easily, gamers cant boycott for shit, regardless of their standing on the political spectrum people who get offended by these games wouldn't have bought them to begin with
Oh well could of fooled me because it seems like on my screen that a publisher just refused to release a game in the states because of complaints of people who don't buy their game threatening their reputation with endless articles about how horrible they are. I'm sure this just an isolated case and there absolutely no Japanese publishers who look at the current state of our garmes jarnalizm and think maybe they shouldn't release some games out of fear of their name being dragged through the mud with all this representations of women thing.
God dammit, not the anime tiddies. Why the sjw even bother bitching about niche games? they aren't going to play them anyway
I totally get what you're saying but isn't it kind of an assumption that they were bullied into self-censorship? Like, I don't know this series very well but I'm assuming there's been multiple games over the years? I just sort of feel like if they had actually been pressured into this, it would have happened already
The previous titles came out long before there was such a focus on representation on women in the industry. As was previous mentioned they certainly had a audience and even sold better in the states than in japan. Now suddenly they're making a late sequel and they decide not the release it in the states
"Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry? We do not want to talk those things here. But certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision. Thank you.”
The atmosphere of fear in the industry with publishers not wanting to be labeled sexist is so thick you can cut it with a knife. To say it isn't the reason the sequel to this game isn't coming out in the states is extremely naive.
