As noted by iDaily.de, Apple has not only begun recommending competing mapping services but it removed some superlatives from the Maps page.
"All of which may just make this app the most beautiful, powerful mapping service ever."
Changed to:
"All in a beautiful vector-based interface that scales and zooms with ease."
Apple may want to work on this little bit as well:

Nice to see Apple get like 0.001% humbler.

Give them credit where it's due, they're trying.
:v:
Reminds me of

How could they even fuck up this hard on mapping software?
How did this even get past testing?

Ok, I generously removed 3 zeros.
stuff considered news on the internet.
I wonder why.

Trying isn't good enough for a company like Apple. They have to get it right the first time, or close to it. This wasn't even close.

They never said it would be the direction you wanted to go in
What was wrong with their news maps app? I have an iPad but haven't bothered to upgrade to iOS6 yet.

I guess my sarcasm wasn't apparent in my post. But yeah, they fucked up big time here.
Then why did they release software which is so broken
trying =/= succeeding
I guess
Maps take a whole new turn.
Off of a bridge.
And the icon still tells you to drive off a bridge
I think someone at Apple thought "flyover" ramps meant something else...

Wow,they've really fucked it up. Maps on OS 5 works beautifully, living in a new city i've actually been using it quite a lot

What I've learned from Apple maps:
1. Everything is either flat or melting.
2. Rivers are incredibly rare.
3. Southern Switzerland is tricolored.
4. Bridges are bullshit and uncool. Drive off them.

That's because you're using google maps
Well the good part is now Google will make their own Google Maps app.
The app before was not "Google Maps" but "Maps", it merely used Google Maps' data, but the app was made by Apple. This is why it was so behind the Android maps app which is made by Google and is tailored specefically for Google Maps, and is updated more often.
PS: maps.apple has you driving off a bridge
google maps has a much safer icon
trust google maps
I can just hear the people at Google laughing their asses off right now.
I like the new design of maps but the functionality is outrageously bad
TBH I don't think Apple could of improved it much more by avoiding it's release. Mapping is all about data points, and there is only so much data you can collect by keeping the network penned-in during development.
Can only imagine Steve Jobs reaction if he was still alive
Then why did they release software which is so broken
Because Apple is so paranoid about people stealing their shit they don't extensively beta test, so bugs/glitches are fare more frequent and obvious.
Hell, I'm amazed their software and hardware aren't more prone to software/hardware failure. A credit to their engineers I suppose.

aka everyone would be fired
they only ditched using Google Maps for the backend because Google refused to give them turn by turn navigation for the Android would have something over the iOS version

Pretty much. Redoing maps and doing it all themselves was the only way to move forward.
Currently it's shit, yeah, but eventually it will be really good. It's getting better on an almost daily basis. Until then I look forward to the next 5,326 threads about the Maps app.

My only problem is that they're pretty much using consumers to beta test.
