A 64-year-old coach driver who discovered two migrants hiding in his boot handed them over to officials, only to be landed with a £2,000 fine.
Laurie Bourne, 64, from Basildon in Essex, feared his securely locked coach had been tampered with as he returned from a round trip to Calais.
His suspicions proved correct when he opened his boot to find two migrants hiding behind shopping bags on a luggage rack.
That's fucking stupid. If anything he should have been rewarded for turning them in, I can see quite a few moral problems with giving out rewards for that kind of thing, but at the least a fucking fine is stupid as shit and shouldn't happen.
So basically, fucking don't. Don't help law enforcement. Turn a blind eye because you're better off. How ridiculous.

Knowing the world it's probably been a "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of a deal. If he didn't turn them in, he'd probably get also fined. So yeah...
'My coach was still technically in France - the men were handed back to the French police who simply walked them out of the docks and let them go.'
Brilliant deterrent France, they'll certainly never try again.
And people wonder why lorry drivers are striking over the current working conditions. Why risk your own safety when you could face a hefty fine for each desperate migrant who forces their way into your lorry.

Is it really this bad? I don't know that much about this whole ordeal, or why immigrants are doing this in the first place

From what I've seen it's completely terrible.
They are actually stopping the vehicles with barricades and cut holes into them to get in.
The police doesn't appear to do enough against it from what I read about this so far, either.

You American blokes will never understand the British vocabulary.
A spokesman for the Home Office told MailOnline: 'We continue to strengthen the security of our borders to stop those who have no right to enter the UK.
'One element of this work is the ability of Border Force to impose a penalty on any individuals or companies found to be carrying illegal immigrants.
'All coach drivers entering into the UK, including those entering from France, must take simple steps to avoid illegal immigrants boarding, such as ensuring the vehicle remains locked, compartments are secured and passengers are supervised when entering or exiting.
'Failure to take these steps and ensure an effective system of security is in place can result in a fine of up to £2,000 for each clandestine found to be on board.'
So their biggest effort to strengthen the security of their borders is to fine those who "fail" to keep their vehicle locked and secured. His truck was broken into, how is he supposed to keep it locked? Weld it shut?
I got a feeling nothing is going to happen until someone dies here, and it feels awful.
He doesn't have to pay the fine. You can't recognize something that irrational.
This is one of those things where someone has to die before it gets more attention and fixed, nice going.

I don't know man, Simply not paying a fine is not something that you want to do.
Not paying a fine will lead to more severe punishment like forced seizure and sale of goods and in the worst case, face Imprisonment.
