A federal judge in San Antonio ruled Wednesday that Texas’ ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutionally deprives some citizens of due process and equal protection under the law by stigmatizing their relationships and treating them differently from opposite-sex couples.
U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia cited recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings as having trumped Texas’ moves to ban gay marriage.
“Today’s court decision is not made in defiance of the great people of Texas or the Texas Legislature, but in compliance with the U.S. Constitution and Supreme Court precedent,” he said in his order. “Without a rational relation to a legitimate governmental purpose, state-imposed inequality can find no refuge in our U.S. Constitution.”
Because it's really divided based on the part of texas - so you'd get a very different impression depending on where you go to. Some people in houston would fit right in 80 years ago :v:

I don't think people 80 years ago would vote an open and married lesbian to run their city.

While it may now be law, there are still parts of the state you want to completely avoid if you're anything but white (ie. Jasper, some parts of the hill country, etc.)

It's so true I really don't have a rebuttal.

Well, you have the human horn...

The title is wrong. Texas didn't do it. A federal judge did it.
and it doesn't mean gay marriage is legal there. This has happened in Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Utah and Oklahoma and gay marriage isn't in effect yet for any of them. they're all stayed for review.
do we have any tape on Ted Cruze flipping shit out yet?
Texas might actually go blue within 1-2 presidential elections. Rick Perry is just such a dumbass you wouldn't believe it.
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, Republican
"Today's ruling by a federal judge, invalidating Texas' ban on same-sex marriage, is a troubling display of judicial activism. Our Constitution leaves it to the States to define marriage, and unelected judges should not be substituting their own policy views for the reasoned judgments of the citizens of Texas, who adopted our marriage law directly by referendum. The court's decision undermines the institution of marriage, and I applaud Attorney General Abbott's decision to appeal this ruling to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals."

i wonder if his head just melted

oh here we go,
State Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Texas, running for lieutenant governor
"As Lieutenant Governor I'll fight activist judges and defend our traditional Texas values."
"MARRIAGE= ONE MAN & ONE WOMAN. Enough of these activist judges. FAVORITE if you agree. I know the silent majority out there is with us!"
"Marriage is between one man and one woman. Period."
[editline]26th February 2014[/editline]
marrage = a man and a woman in a religous institution
marrage to the IRS = two people living togather declairing themselves married, stop thinking its anything otherwise, this has ALWAYS been about redefining it for fair tax and benefits purposes NOT because "the gays" want to marry in your church and force the goverment to allow it
This is a nice step in the right direction for Texas.

Hell, it's even an unofficial state motto of ours.
"Thank God for Mississippi!"

This is true, but it does mean it's within the realm of possibility if what Splarg! says holds any water and we go blue.

ya but ohio's is already in appeals and doesn't look like it'll overturn the decision which is great, plus how do you really fight this, i mean they ruled all the way up to the supreme court with california's argument that it was passed by their voters but american law has ruled that is not justifiable for this
well here comes the shitty FB posts from my texan family members about barack HUSSEIN obama being a dictator and breaking the constitution over his knee while killing gun owners, burning the flag, and spitting on the graves of veterans
they're all stayed for review.
and they will completely forget how an unconstitutional law being declared as such by the national level does not violate the constitution
the constitution applies to the whole country. THE WHOLE COUNTRY. EVERY STATE. you nitwits.

I'm spending a week at their house in the next month. I can keep my mouth shut on almost anything but I really really really dislike homophobes. so its going to be difficult.
Texas is becoming more and more liberal if you haven't noticed.

Mississippi is about as bad as Alabama, after living here for so long. It's not as bad as you think, the people are actually sane. It's just the history that Mississippi has. Sure, the religion gets horrible here, but the southern part of Mississippi has a high count of Atheists and gays.
