I am a big fan of Gladiator, and Kingdom of Heaven(Directors cut), and while Robin hood is weaker than the two, it is still easily one of my favorite movies. Sure it has it's flaws, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience watching it. Hell I saw it twice in theaters! There was historical inaccuracies galore, but the movie's atmosphere was GREAT. Everything about it FELT authentic. It has the benefit of being a period piece that isn't some crappy action movie like Prince of Persia or Clash of the Titans. We need more movies like this.
I don't understand why people cry and complain about this movie, yet give cliche ridden CGI fests like Avatar 10's. Who knows, maybe I'm crazy.
On a side but related note, Marc Streitenfelds' score for this movie is excellent.

I liked it, but it didn't quite reach my expectations.
Liked it, didn't reach my expectations.

I'm curious, what about it didn't reach them?
I didn't like it.
If I didn't know the name of the film and if they replaced the name Robin Hood with John Doe I would never have guessed this was a Robin Hood film.
A generic, tiresome medieval action flick lacking the charisma of Robin Hood.

I figured that that was why it didn't live up to people's expectations. The title. People went in expecting a traditional Robin Hood story, which it wasn't, and I'm glad it wasn't to be honest. I liked the origins idea. If people are going to complain about the movie, they should complain about the flaws the movie has (such as Godfrey's lack of a motive), instead of the title, which is fine.
I dunno. Ridley Scott's one of my favorite directors, and while this a good movie on it's own, it didn't seem to be of the same quality I'd come to expect of his work.

This.
I saw this free with a couple of friends, I thought it was extremely boring.
Gladiator was great, this not so much, but where else are you going to go to see medieval combat, Knight's Tale? rofl
Its a fun movie to watch but the writing is kind of shit. Originally they set out to write a Robin Hood story that stood out, the first draft had Russell Crowe playing both Robin and the Sherrif. Supposedly, this story, while certainly different sucked balls and they ended up going with a pretty traditional Robin Hood story. I followed this movie on IMDB since the early days when it was still supposed to be called 'Nottingham'.
Whatever, still loved the movie.
I expected someting different.
Just watched the director's cut. The new scenes are nice. They expand a lot more on the Sherwood boys. There's also added blood, which was sorely lacking from the theatrical imo.
Worked well as a prequel, yet I think it was looking a bit empty. I can barely remember what was going on between the intro fight and the finale.
This movie is significant in my mind, because I "illegally" snuck into it with the help of my friends. Its because the movie sold out and I didn't like that I drove 10 miles across town for nothing.
But in some ways, I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Its not like it was a TERRIBLE film, but I don't think it was worth the $8.50. I enjoyed it, but it sort of was a forgettable film in my opinion.
I liked it, but it felt so rushed. Hope the second movie will be more Robing Hoodish though.

I agree, even though it was close to 2 and a half hours, I felt it needed more. You should watch the Directors Cut, the 15 minutes extra + the added blood make it worth it imo.
Yeah, the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven, Ridley's last epic, was way better than the theatrical version.

KoH's theatrical version is mediocre and disjointed. In short, it's poop, but the Directors Cut is a near masterpiece. Certainly one of my favorite films.
Not even close to being as good as Gladiator. But it was still good. I like the whole old-english folklore so this was kind of a treat for me.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie from beginning to end, the only thing that actually stuck from it though was it's music.
I've found that with sufficiently good music any movie can be made impressive.

The soundtrack for this movie is frigging addicting. When I saw it in theaters I was like "Wow I have to get this soundtrack." Not many movies have that effect on me.
Just watched it yesterday, fucking loved it.

Did you watch the theatrical or director's cut?

Who did the soundtrack? I can't be bothered to google it.

Marc Streintenfeld.
I thought this movie was great. Was even more excited when I figured out that the red-headed guy (shit, I forget his name) played Malarkey in Band of Brothers.
I think a lot of the disappointment was also because a lot of people went in expecting the actual Robin Hood story that we all are familiar with and we ended up getting a prequel instead. Although I really liked it. The writing wasn't amazing but the characters were likable for the most part.
All in all I enjoyed it a lot. Will probably go out and buy the movie soon.
