The couple's oldest biological child, who was assigned female at birth, joined brothers Maddox and Pax wearing sharp suits and short haircuts. Pitt and Jolie have been fairly open over the years about Shiloh's interest in all things considered masculine. In an interview with Oprah in 2008, Brad Pitt discussed how Shiloh wanted to be called John. The eight-year-old's family fully supports their decision to self-identify — from an affinity for suits and ties to shorter hair to the name change. (Editor's Note: We have followed the Advocate's lead, and referred to John Jolie-Pitt as "they" as a gender-neutral pronoun to respect John's decision, whatever gender they may end up being.) Jolie told Vanity Fair in a 2010 interview that John has been exploring their identity since the age of three. "She wants to be a boy," Jolie said. "So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers."
Good for him, Shiloh is a shit name anyway.
It'd be cool Agenlina Jolie and Brad Pitt were my parents. I mean having great actors with a shitload of money is nice, but also they're really genuinely cool people.
With names like those I'm surprised they all don't want different names
"She wants to be a boy," Jolie said. "So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers."
Kind of feels like an oxymoron, you are respecting their wish to be a boy yet not referring to them as such.
Kind of feels like an oxymoron, you are respecting their wish to be a boy yet not referring to them as such.
coming from someone who has someone close going through the transition, it's hard to get accustomed to the change. it's not disrespect, it's unlearning something that these parents have thought of their son for years and suddenly have to change that. it's clear that they love their son and respect his wishes, but when you're inexperienced with stuff like this (as are like, most every other person in the world), it's hard to adapt. give them time and they'll come around.
assigned female at birth
seriously?

Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon saying he's the newest trans kid on the block. I think this is still a period of decision for her and it's important to respect that.
Nothing wrong with at least one of your children having an ordinary, easily spelled name.
They own a pretty big mansion not too far from where I live. Never seen them around though, I take they're not the type to wander around a small town anyway :v:
Yay! Supporting our child's mental illness is fun! (User was permabanned for this post ("Bigot" - Craptasket))
seriously?
i dont get it is she/he a boy?
i dont get it is she/he a boy?
Biologically female, identifies as male.
seriously?
I think that whole "assigned x at birth" thing is stupid, they could have just said biologically female. Sex and gender are two different things. I suppose the term is aimed at people who won't understand that someone can be biologically one gender, but conform to another.
Yay! Supporting our child's mental illness is fun!
Even if we go by the idea that this is a mental illness, then the cure is to roll with it and help the person feel better with themselves so I don't see the issue.
i dont get it is she/he a boy?
Im pretty sure its a she, however, the whole "assigned a female/male at birth" thing is stupid. Mental affiliation with sexual identification =/= biological sex given due to biological function provided thru genitals. I support her/he in pursuing happiness through this, but the whole reconstruction of political correctness around this subject is annoying.
Yay! Supporting our child's mental illness is fun!
can we not do this?
I think that whole "assigned x at birth" thing is stupid, they could have just said biologically female. Sex and gender are two different things. I suppose the term is aimed at people who won't understand that someone can be biologically one gender, but conform to another.
People who are biologically female are typically assigned the female gender at birth. I think that "assigned x at birth" is a phrase that sounds kinda bad but when used to refer to a person who later identifies as transgendered it's sensible. Otherwise, for you and me who identify as our genitals would imply, it'd only be superfluous and pretentious
seriously?
What's so shocking about it? When someone pops out the doc looks between their legs for half a second then jots down an M or F on the birth certificate based on what they saw. At that age people are scarcely aware of anything at all, they're far too young to choose a 'gender'. That can't happen until the child is old enough to be self-aware, which is a few years after birth. 4-6 usually.
Sex and gender are two different things.
Knowing which way is up is asking an awful lot from a newborn. Let's not start asking them what gender they'd like to be. Assign them what's between their legs and let them sort it out in a few years when they're old enough to comprehend it.
Yay! Supporting our child's mental illness is fun!
oh i'm sorry i thought it was generally best to try to conform to people's mental quirks since we literally have no way of actually correcting them and of course the fact that most people would consider it rather morally objectionable to try to "correct" someones personality and mental quirks
What's so shocking about it? When someone pops out the doc looks between their legs for half a second then jots down an M or F on the birth certificate based on what they saw.
and that works out for almost everyone so it's pretty A-OK
Yay! Supporting our child's mental illness is fun!
here I thought we lived in 2014 go away
look how stupid you are
his opinion is different than mine so therefor he's stupid
his opinion is different than mine so therefor he's stupid
More like he's objectively wrong and ignorant therefore he's stupid
his opinion is different than mine so therefor he's stupid
it's an opinion born from total ignorance. of course it's fucking stupid.
his opinion is different than mine so therefor he's stupid
Outdated, bigoted beliefs aren't an opinion, they're a blight Stop defending transphobes
I wish my parents respected my exploration of identity at 3. I'd be a T-Rex right now. Or at least some sort of wild man living on an island off of Costa Rica. Of course that's not realistic... Unlike a name change, style changes, label changes, medical programs if needed. Maybe if I was born in the right future period, I'd be offered a solution. My 3 year old mind would be put into a computer simulation of a Cretaceous period fantasy land. I would have been happiest then (I don't know what tense to use... future/past?). I would have chosen a life like that in heartbeat. Of course I'd be only 3. But if I'm going to become a dinosaur till my minds end... it'd probably be best done early in life.
