PC-Aero, a German aircraft design, engineering and consulting company for general and business aviation, will display its prototype electric-powered aircraft, the Elektra One, at “the electric avenue 10, the Expo for Sustainable Mobility”, in Friedrichshafen, Germany, 3-6 June.
The 1-seater Elektra One is the first member of a planned E-Plane family including electric aircrafts from 2 (Elektra Two) up to 4 passengers (Elektra Four. The battery and solar-cell powered Elektra One is built of lightweight fiber composite structures. The plane is sailplane-like, with a glide ratio of more than 20 at 160 km/h cruise. Maximum power is 16-20 kW, and range is more than 400 km (249 miles) with a flight time of up to more than 3 hours. The prototype of the Elektra One is in the final stage of fabrication. Elektra Two and Elektra Four are in an advanced design phase
The family of electric glider planes is described at the PC Aero site
The E-Plane Aircraft-Family - advantages
* flying with CO2 Zero Emission (environmental protection)
* lower operation costs than using a classic aircraft/propulsion system
* low noice and vibrations (engine, propeller with about 1800 RPM)
* possibility to overload the engine for start (short time)
* no power reduction with altitude
* 10000 hours maintenance free electric engine
* engine failure is not critical due to very good gliding capability
The E-Plane Aircraft-Family - integration of modern technologies advantages
* light brushless electric engine and controller
* battery management systems
* lightest batteries
* high efficient solar cells applied on the wing surface
* supra light compozite glass/carbon sandwich structures
* modern integrated design methods

Damn, I probably weigh more than that plane does D:
Its empty weight is 11Kg's more than me.
Godamn; that's light.
Damn, I probably weigh more than that plane does D:
Then you're fat as fuck.
Fuckin hell looks like a glider with an engine on the front.
A 90kg payload for the first model? What the hell is going to fly it, trained hamsters?
That's pretty fucking neat.
That is fucking awesome :krad2:
So uh... can this take off on it's own? Or does it need to be towed by a bigger plane to take off?
So uh... can this take off on it's own? Or does it need to be towed by a bigger plane to take off?
It needs a tow plane. The propeller and electrics is for the A/C and the CD player.
That is awesome. I want one.
Not really useful until it can take off on its own, but it's a start.

I swear I just stared at this image for around ten seconds waiting for it to load
Damn, I probably weigh more than that plane does D:
Jesus Christ, you're huge.
120kg is 264lbs.
The 90kg limit isn't too bad, considering that's around 200lbs, which most adult men are either right at or under.
the 90kg includes toleranced, the real value probably goes up to 95 or even 100kg.
ooo, how much does the ELEKTRA ONE cost?, because I weigh about 65KG
That would definitely be the way to get to work, land in the car park as close to the building as possible and plug into a wall socket, batteries recharge whilst you're working, fly home. (destroying everything in your way on take-off) Well, maybe not but still...
I would be too scared to fly it, I mean what if there's a sudden gust of wind coming from the right or left, you'd flip that's how light it is.
Buy a parachute and pretend you know how it works :buddy:
As a (student) pilot this is interesting, but the fact that it's a one seater and probably doesn't have much room for luggage means it's not terribly useful. The 2 and 4 seater models could be promising though.
Wow, that plane weights over twice as much as i do! :buddy:
Then you're fat as fuck.
Indeed.
This thing looks really fun.
I weigh 75kg so I could fly without a problem. :buddy:
I want it
Damn, I probably weigh more than that plane does D:
get off FP and go to the gym
Fuck, I'm too fat to fly in it
[editline]02:40AM[/editline]
Even if I can fly it I doubt I can fit my mcdonalds in there anyway
That plane is essentially twice my weight.
I'm so scrawny.
Suddenly, clouds! No sun and the place crashes :smug:
Its empty weight is 11Kg's more than me.
Godamn; that's light.
You weigh 109 KG? Holy shit, time to hit the gym.
[editline]12:03PM[/editline]
Fuckin hell looks like a glider with an engine on the front.

Or you know, a normal human being on 80 KG.
If these ever become popular and are available for under $15,000, I wouldn't mind getting a private aviation license just so I can own one.
Then I can say I have an airplane in my back yard! :c00l:
How much is that in pounds?
Electricity > Combustion. Why military UAV's are not electric is beyond me.
