• The Acai berry - Truth or Scam?

We've all seen them. "FOLLOW ONE SIMPLE RULE TO LOSE WEIGHT", "WOW OMG I LOST WEIGHT JUST BY FOLLOWING ONE SIMPLE STEP" etc, etc. But is there actually proper scientific evidence supporting this claim? All the websites advertising this "Wondercure" seem to state that there is, but of course these guys aren't the most reliable source of information. So I went on a quest to try and find out the truth of the mysterious Acai berry. It's hard as fuck to find ANY reliable information on this thing. You put "Acai berry" into google and what you get is about ten pages full of wondercures and free trials. These aren't particularly useful to me. I've struggled to find anything in such big news titles as BBC and CNN; hell, they're even trying to pass cheap fakes of these websites to get people to buy their products. It's hard to have faith in such ruthless marketing. Finally, I tried putting "Acai berry scam" into Google. I got this seemingly quite balanced review of the product: http://hubpages.com/hub/acaiberryscam It's too big to post here, so I'll just give the conclusion.
Acai Berry Scam Conclusion Now that we have went through most of the key points of the controversy, it is time to weigh in on the score and make a conclusion. I tried to quote non-biased sources when I could and invite you to check out the links. Before I score this controversy, I want to list a quote from a WebMD article. Click here to read the whole story, but I think it sums up this controversy nicely: Scientists are learning more about the functional power of superfoods, such as the acai berry. Although acai is touted in some weight loss products, few studies have tested the benefit of acai in promoting weight loss. For now, plenty of research supports eating a diet rich in antioxidants. There’s no doubt that berries and other fruits are a key part of any healthy diet promoting weight loss. The jury’s still out on whether there is something special about acai’s ability to shed excess pounds. To score the above debate, I would score the acai berry as 3 parts legitimate and cost effective health supplements and 2 parts scam. If you stay away from free trials and don't expect them to melt off 30 pounds of fat without exercise, the acai berry is 100% legitimate. If you take acai berry supplements in combination with a little exercise and a healthy diet, they should be able to help you improve your health, but they won't work if you continue to eat junk food and don't exercise. The quote above from WebMD pretty much says the same thing. For the record, I am a supporter of acai berry supplements. I have not tried every one and I am sure there are some scams, but if you are smart about what you do, you should be able to get health benefits from them.
I am still, however, skeptical, not aided by the fact that this reviewer states they are supporters of the products. So, I put it down to you guys. Do you believe in the Acai berry as a "Supercure" to weightloss? Or maybe just an aid? Or is it all a big sham? I find it hard to believe in a single food which can, on its own, be a complete cure to obesity. I don't think it's RIGHT that there should be something like that; we have enough incentive around us to sit indoors eating shit all day. If there IS something that can work towards losing weight, it should be used simply as an aid, to speed up the effects that a healthy diet and regular exercise do for the body.
Its for lazy people who are too fat and lazy to exercise.
Nope. The only way to lose weight is through surgery or exercise. It might help your metabolism, but it's definitely not a magic fruit.
It might help you lose fat EASIER, but not lose fat all by itself. For example, when you eat an apple you get 80 kilocalories, but your body needs 90 kilocalories to dissolve this apple. So ou actually lose 10 kilocalories when you eat an apple. And yes, I know what I'm talking about.
I don't think it "melts" (in lack of better words) your fat away. It might make it go faster though.
Liposuction. :)

I couldn't find any conclusive evidence that in reality this worked. I find it more likely you lose weight simply because you're eating an apple and not a bag of crisps which have a higher calorie content and more saturated fats among other things. Now if you went from your current diet, added a whole lot of grapefruit and celery to it without changing ANYTHING else (exercise, food portions or lifestyle in general) and found your weight loss increased then that would give the theory some credibility.

http://www.fatfreekitchen.com/negative-calorie-foods.html Definitely worth a shot. Good luck.

There can be foods that digest in a different way.
Is the black thing in the 2009 photo your hair?
It's my sister's hat.
so you're a crossdresser
Is the black thing in the 2009 photo your hair?
Your not very bright, are you.
You're not very bright, are you.
Indeed :eng101:
A berry won't make you become thin, maybe if you ate only one berry and nothing else for each day for a month or so. You'd probably be dead then, though. And you'd probably still be fat, unless you worked out.
Spend your life in a sauna! You'll be skinny and hot like me in no time!
I've found eating like a normal person and drinking lots of water does a lot of the work for you. Cycling would definitely help, but that's easier to do in the summer.
I doubt eating a berry is going to help. Even if you ONLY eat that berry the fat wont magically disappear.
Just like herbal product they use as a stimulant in whatever form, it will help. But calories and diet is still chief when losing fat.
acai is just a berry with antioxidants blackberry has higher antioxidant levels than acai
They do nothing for your weight, but are incredibly healthy for you.
acai is just a berry with antioxidants blackberry has higher antioxidant levels than acai
This Acai is just a berry, it may be an above-averagely healthy berry, but it's still just a berry, it's not a magic potion or something.
This Acai is just a berry, it may be an above-averagely healthy berry, but it's still just a berry, it's not a magic potion or something.
1x Agree! [editline]10:04PM[/editline] Oh shit! 1000 posts! :D
I've never heard of this Acai berry. But then I don't actively seek out dieting scams, so... :v: And of course it's a scam. If it's not exercise and healthy dieting, chances are its a scam. At the very least, its overexaggerated (hell, even the small-print at the bottom of the screen says "these results are not typical")
Grapes are better for you than acai berries, and the juice is pretty nasty.
My girlfriend and her parents have been taking this along side with exercise and such. It's sped up their metabolism a lot. It does also help with hair, nail, and skin health.

just eat celery or other high-fiber veggies since your body can't use digest all of the content in vegetables, but it will still feel full. only downside is that too much fiber can give you nasty ass diarrhea and floating turds that can leave shit stains in your toilet bowl.
