Brexit negotiation details will be kept secret from Parliament, David Davis says
David Davis, the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, told parliamentarians on Monday afternoon that full transparency would not be in the country’s best interests.
“Clearly there is a need for Parliament to be informed without giving away our negotiating position. I may not be able to tell you everything, even in private hearings,” he told the House of Lords EU select committee.
The Government has refused to so far give details about what Brexit would entail or even give a definitive answer about when negotiations for leaving the EU would begin. Theresa May and those around her have consistently said they will not “give a running commentary” on Brexit and that “Brexit means Brexit”.
That is normal for negotiations.

Normal but far from encouraging.

but the people demanded transparency, less closed talks behind doors by unelected plutocrats, less corruption, more democracy, 350m per week to the NHS, free puppies, more jobs, less brown people, winning the european cup etc etc etc

While this is true, the British public deserve to know what the future of Brexit is going to look like before it actually arrives at their doorstep.
So Parliament aren't going to be told about the negotiations and they aren't going to be allowed to vote on them... I'm sorry, this isn't sensible at all.

nobody in the government or civil service really knows what they're even trying to negotiate for considering that the sole thing keeping the leave camp together was a mutual desire to leave the EU - they can't agree on migration, the common market, etc

that would make sense if we knew what the hell we were negotiating for.

So you want Britain to leave the EU, but you don't want to know what you actually gain and lose in the transition? Seems bizarre to me.

That's not our job to know, it's the politicians job to know! That's why we vote them in right? To make big decisions on behalf of the peo-

it worked real well for TTP and TTIP though. this is about the economic future of britain, keeping it top top secret before passing it will not bode well with people
