GO TO BELL I'm just kidding, first off I do not use Bell Hosting, as there are 9 million other better web hosting companies out there but I'm doing a website for a client, and well they want to stick to Bell because it's Bell, whatever. First off, let me tell you why it does not kick ass, some of these are to do with hosting/design, but most are general about Bell Overpriced All their packages are overpriced compared to others (Bell? NO!), and to add to that, the services they offer for their packages are way less than anyone else. But because it is Bell, many people just assume that is "the best" option. Customer Service For those that don't know Bell, if you ever mention Bell to anyone, they are just deeply fucking pissed. I have never heard anyone ever say anything good about them, especially when you say customer service. None of their representatives know anything about Hosting/Web Design. I mean, every damn question you ask has to be looked up through their response database. None of them have the slightest clue at what they are doing. I'm sure 80% of the guys on here, even the new amateurs of web design, would be considered fucking geniuses if they had a job at Bell Tech Support. Their web hosting system Instead of using an actual control panel like cPanel, they have designed their own system which is absolutely hard to navigate and works like shit. I'll explain more below I'm sure there are more, I just can't think of it at the time. Anyways onto my recent adventure with Bell : I'm doing the web design for a government organization, their ecstatic to get this thing up and running, as they are hiring in the next month, and of course all their newspaper ads also say to check out the website. So I'm kind of being pushed along, which I don't mind, until I venture into the fire pits of BELL..... The whole website I have built offline and uploaded online my own system, so I know it works no problems. A lot of the clients website is database driven, so I go to set up a new database, username, pass, bla bla. This is the first problem, trying to access phpMyAdmin, I get this socket fucking error that I can't get around. I know instantly that it isn't my fault, and thank god after explaining it to the client, they are understanding. I get them to call Bell and have it resolved. It takes 2 weeks for Bell to fix it, multiple phone calls to add to that. All right, so I log into phpMyAdmin, set up custom users?? Nope. Privileges? Nope. Import database tables anyway you want? Nope, only SQL files. Okay, no problem, I get it all set up, with their crazy 50 character username and db name. it's phpMyAdmin cut down to almost nothing. At this point, everything should work fine, everything is set up, correctly. So I go to test it, a lot of the site isn't loading, I realize that it's PHP scripting. Error reporting, no errors. Okay, check through it, problem test it, maybe something I wrote it doesn't like. I get down to one point that is giving the problems, unixtojd() For those that don't know, this changes a unix date to a julian date. It is a built in function of PHP. So I call Bell, and after 3 phone calls I finally get some decent help. It turns out, for some reason that this function does not work on Bell systems, what???? I could understand if it was something major, but that is pretty simple shit right there, and has been around forever. So I'm given a ticket number and now have to wait 24-48 hours for them to get this fixed. I'd figure out a way around it, but it seems their PHP system, which is version 5, is fucked beyond anything. So I list off a bunch of functions that I have used so they can get those fixed too. I got other shit to do other than rewrite functions that are supposed to be built in. Why am I writing this, because their is no reason at all, NONE, to ever use Bell for hosting. If you use it, I'll cut ya UPDATE It's been 18 hours, and still hasn't been fixed, I know they said 24-48 hours, but I figured that was just general chat rep shit they said. UPDATE It's been 4 days, still no luck, I'll be phoning Bell today and seeing what's up. Update Phoned, it's been moved to higher priority. UPDATE It's been a week, still no fix. I'll be phoning them Monday to get it fixed. Never use Bell for hosting clearly. Fuck Bell man, honestly this is totally unacceptable, if it was another host, A. It wouldn't have happened, B. If it did, it would have been considered high priority and fixed maximum 2-3 days, most hosts would have it fixed in less than 12 hours UPDATE Got a phone call from the client, what parts of the website were uploaded, all of a sudden fucked up. So I looked at it and they were right. Bell changed the .htaccess file to some bogus shit, so than I changed it back and fixed it. There highly considering switching from Bell now, but we will see. So I call Bell again, as unixtojd() still does not work. They confirm it has been disabled and will be installed, allllll right... So I'm still waiting, what the fuck is this, day 12 or something. P.S. FUCK BELL
Sounds a lot like Comcast.
Fuck, you made me nostalgia
Fuck, you made me nostalgia
nice use of nostalgia do you even know what it means
I have Bell and its a steaming piece of shit. My download speed will cap at 256kb/s and my pings in games NEVER go below 60 at best.
I have Bell and its a steaming piece of shit. My download speed will cap at 256kb/s and my pings in games NEVER go below 60 at best.
Ive got the lowest available speeds from Comcast and they love to make my bandwidth start out at 350Kbps and then quickly drop it to 120, and then finally towards the middle and end of my downloads put it at 50 to 100.
I find their internet service not too bad, although I got the 100 mbsp package I'm sure their are better, but my options are limited
If you are making this for someone, just call them explain your situation and tell them you want to host it somewhere else. What is the problem?
Fuck, you made me nostalgia
if you nostalga from dell you can go die.
It's almost come down to that, but the more items you have with Bell (satellite, cellphones, phone systems, shit like that) the more of a discount you get. It's just people don't know, if they knew and understood how shitty it was and what their options were, they wouldn't use it. If I had known it was this much of a hassle, I might have told them before hand
Nostalgia's a verb?
Real men run their own servers :colbert:
Look how fast the thread went to flaming my post :iiam:
Real men use Media Temple's Nitro package. http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/nitro/
Tell them to pay you XX amount of money per month/year for the hosting, so they don't pay the hosting directly and you'll earn some cash, and you can decide the hosting. (and you have a monthly income :woof:)
Bell sucks. Real bad.
Fuck, you made me nostalgia
what [editline]08:58PM[/editline]
Look how fast the thread went to flaming my post :iiam:
it's not a mystery, you're dumb
Look how fast the thread went to flaming my post :iiam:
seriously literally unironically get out
nice use of nostalgia do you even know what it means
Don't diss DELL,my prebuilt in 2000 with a NIVDIA 200 ti card still runs modern games.
rogers is no better
rogers is no better
Videotron is only slightly better (I'm on the Quebec side). On the topic though, it's not just bell internet and hosting that is balls, it is their entire selection of products, their customer service, their salespeople, their stores, and even their stranglehold over the CRTC and their ability to lockdown just about any medium of communication from outsiders. For those of you not in Canada, here are some examples: -3 year cell phone contracts are the average. Yes, you read that right, THREE YEARS. What phone could possibly last that long!? Oh, and don't forget the $9 "system access fee" -Bandwidth caps that max out at 60gb a month for most users. -Against net neutrality, for deep packet searches -Calling customer service routes you to some of the rudest, most retarded fucking Indian call centres I've ever had to deal with, beating out even Microsoft (though you can get around this by asking for service in french and then talking english because all their french agents are bilingual for some reason) God damn Indian call centres... guaranteed, you're gonna be on the phone for like 45 minutes trying to get something fixed, then you'll get hung up on for some percieved insult by a butthurt faggot on the other side of the planet.
Nostalgia's a verb?
I just Nostalgia'd in my pants.
Why would you go to a company that has devil horns on the logo in the first place? (kidding)
Fuck, you made me nostalgia
10'er :ms: I thought I experienced bad customer service with Microsoft. Do they have foreigners working at the support desks for Bell or...?
I thought I experienced bad customer service with Microsoft. Do they have foreigners working at the support desks for Bell or...?
I have had to deal with both MS and Bell, they're both using Indian call centres for english service and both are extremely annoying and treat legitimate customers like shit.
I have had to deal with both MS and Bell, they're both using Indian call centres for english service and both are extremely annoying and treat legitimate customers like shit.
I try to use their online chat as much as possible, they or whoever can type proper english. But yes, I've had to ask them to repeat themselves multiple times as I cannot understand what they are saying. I found out though through my 3 calls to Bell Hosting tech support, that they all are english speaking folk.
brb applying for bell tech support
