To break this down, 'The Void' is a VR suite for a Dave and busters style establishment being opened in Utah that provides a Holodeck experience. A game is overlayed over an identical, real world area with effects such as mist/wind etc that you move around in and interact with in game objects using a HMD, local positioning system, and body sensors, similar to a laser tag arena... with Virtual Reality. The company is opening up "virtual entertainment center" where you can go on adventures thru games in Utah early next year.

The system is being co-developed by Founder and former developer of Empires mod, Krenzo. Some of you might remember the RF tracking system he invented, his system is being incorporated into this.
what's the latency and the accuracy of the trackers?
it's not gonna look as good as the trailer makes it seem. not by a longshot.
I always wondered why nobody did this!
Holy shiiiit. This blows my VR pod out of the water.
While I don't think this will start out as anything that special I do think that being to go to places to use VR stuff could be great. It could be like the arcades were before, with superiour hardware and controllers etc.
Also with stuff like the Vive you would probably want a lot more room than most people have available in their homes.
How many of these VR headsets are we working on now?
That horror shit would be awesome. Its like a haunted house but actually scary because you can lose.
If a place like this opened in my town, I would blow my money there every day, holy shit.
I can imagine before playing one of the horror simulators, they would ask you to use the restroom so that you don't shit or piss yourself.
If this takes off it will be Videogame Arcades v2

Hi guys, I'm a big Rust fan. have about 1500 hour on right now. Now for The Void, first off you need a hell of a lot bigger space than dave and busters. current stage is 100 x 80. In the future there will be four stages.
Most of the gameplay in this video you can do right now. No simulators yet. This isnt a money grab. We are fully funded for first Void center.
There will be reviews and more video in the next few days from Road to VR.
In two weeks or so will be hands on reviews with Rapture the void HMD.
This was my brothers idea about 18 years ago. He wanted to play counter strike vs real people. The tech caught up and he found people that would put up the money.
They have sent about 150 people thru in the past 2 weeks. Everyone has been floored. This is not bullshit.
I cannot talk about some of the tech yet. but i can tell you that a lot of the problems that other VR people have run into ... they have solved.
It does live up to the video.

One of the problems they are having is actually scaring the shit out of people. They have floors that rumble and shake triggered by dmx when a monster is attacking. Your brain completly buys into it with minimal stimulation, Even if you know its not real your brain doesn't.
Right now they have a cliff you walk to the edge . there is wind machines and they tell people to step off the cliff. about 20 percent cant do it.
The military have been there quite a few time and some of them wont go over the cliff.
The have you go into an elevator that is really two walls and a floor that shakes but in your headset you are in an elevator 100 percent believable. when you get out they put a bridge across the room and cut holes in the floor so people could see the level they just came from. NO ONE WILL STEP ON THE HOLES. even tho they never left the first room they were in.

Seems like for horror they honestly need to make better horror. The brain not knowing its real shouldnt matter. If horror games I play sitting at my computer arent real and the scariest things ive ever witnessed in media are horror games in front of a computer then these guys can get it. That said, the best for this type of set up for a real horrfying experience would be using the full sized arena and making a well made spooky mystery house type of deal. Something familiar, but requires a group of people to solve. That would be fucking amazing if well done, but it would need to be big, and actually feel like going through a house. A 2nd floor like going upstairs would be amazing but babysteps.
They just need to get better at it, shits hard, thats why you can list good horror games on like probably a list 50 taking into account all horror games. Wouldnt expect this to get it right the first time.
I dont buy it looks exactly the same. The futuristic gun one I truly believe can look that way and does. The dragon one? Fuck no. Ive seen enough bullshots to know that trusting shit like that is foolish until I personally see it, and trust me, id love nothing more than it to be 100% real but being lied about shit like that is common place, I dont think everyone here will buy into it, this is a gaming forum.
That said, it seems you are involved in it and it honest to god is a fucking amazing idea and truly hope its a success. I would love to try it if I lived closer than an airplanes flight. If you are close to the people making this, have them play/look at Scratches Directors Cut for maybe a really good inspiration on the type of horror I think would be fucking 10/10 for The Void, especially for a group of people that can solve puzzles together.
Might have to visit it when it opens and give my impressions.

Yeah, Paul, how do we know you're not making all of this up?
if i'm ever in utah for some reason i'll definitely go check this out. if you end up opening one in seattle i'm 100% guaranteed to go try it out at least a few times
-big long post-
Who are you?
So how will this accommodate more than 1-4 people using it at once?
Imagine those people that would rent this and use it as a sex simulator, and not paying a prostitute like normal. There are those people
Road to VR just did a hands-on with the Void system, check it out. They're giving it very positive feedback.
http://www.roadtovr.com/first-hands-on-the-void-a-mixed-reality-experience-that-blends-real-and-virtual/
I turned around and saw that a shimmering door had appeared in the room. Leaning back and forth, I examined the surface of the portal which resembled rippling water. I took a breath and, like Alice stepping through the looking glass, I entered The VOID.
It appeared I had landed in some sort of facility. With no tethers, I was able to step freely into the virtually rendered world surrounding me. Five steps in and my heart beat picked up as I experienced the freedom of wireless tracking, making it feel as though I was walking into a dream. At 10 steps I spun around and shook my head to see if I would break the illusion. There was no noticeable latency and the tracking, matching my physical space with the virtual, felt spot on.
idk he said he is a rust fan
