Australia's terrorist alert level has been raised to high, meaning the risk of an attack is likely, but authorities say they do not know of a "specific" plot or target.
It takes the level from medium, when an attack "could" happen, but stops short of the highest warning level of extreme, when an attack is "imminent".
Prime Minister Tony Abbott said the Government has "no specific intelligence" of a plot to mount a terrorist attack.
"What we do have is intelligence that there are people with the intent and the capability to mount attacks," he said.
He said security agencies had recommended the increased threat level because of the number of Australians "fighting with and supporting" terrorist groups in the Middle East.
I don't know how to feel about this one. I can understand the reason for increasing it through the number of fighters we have going over there and returning + other radical groups forming, but then damn it's also come at a pretty coincidental time (with the new anti-terrorism laws being proposed, also just after 11/9 so we've all got 'big terrorist acts' on our mind).

We should give ASIO access to all our emails and web/phone history, that's sure to stop it.
Australians fighting for ISIS?
Better raise the terror level. That will help.
I see it's not just Norway that is a little jumpy these days.
With how much of a hard on we have over border control I'm sure those fighters won't be able return to Australia.
Can't help but be reminded of Boondocks every time I hear about our terror alert level though.

Terror level:
1: She be right mate
2: Something fishy happening
3: Cunts playing up
4: Fuck me dead
5: Off chops <--
Panic cunts

I'm sorry but you have less than a week.

Nope, probably wouldn't be a bad idea not to make any terrorist jokes around police for a while though.
I feel like they've been expecting people to be super panicked, hence all the "DON'T PANIC, NO IMMINENT THREAT" crap, yet the Australian public has just collectively rolled their eyes and expressed cynicism or apathy.
It's not just the people coming home/going to fight it's due to more groups forming through radical leaders locally. Perth has had an increase but Sydney is increasing exponentially. The current (about to retire) head of ASIO gave details in a report on ABC about it.
In Australia, at this threat level, if you tell a joke on Facebook about Islam, you'll get perma-banned from the country.
