It's probably just an April Fool's joke, but Google's kept silly features like this around before, so there may be more celebrities in the future. Also, yes, I've pasted the entire blog post here and I don't ordinarily do that because it's the rules, but it's an AF joke and it's only 3 paragraphs long to start with, not counting the photos and captions, so there's practically no place to cut anything out. I'm sure Google will forgive me. I only linked one picture from their article, see the blog post for the others.

People've actually done that, putting a photo through multiple passes and multiplying the Hoff. They turn out great. Example:

I'm not afraid to admit that this one makes me giggle like a five-year-old girl. I don't care, it's hilarious. Heeheeheeheeheeeee look at him, he's so small and so excited to be an ice trophy or whatever.
This is the best Auto-Awesome feature.
Also I don't know if anybody else noticed but in Chrome for android, Google added a "translate to emoji" button in the menu
