How in the fuck did Amazon collect 500mb of customer shopping data in 1999? Like that's an obsurd amount it seems for recommending items to buy.
holy shit 350 floppy disks how did they store all that stuff? legit though this is a blast from the past. also 10:25 "investing for the future" and "sell every book in the world today" I mean shit, they kinda hit that nail on the head and then some 10:45 "Amazon has growth potential that Sears doesn't" holy shit those were smart investors
I was just watching an interview with Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins earlier that brought up the exact issue the 10:15ish brings up. It's crazy that a massive company can make a loss every year but still as long as the brand is seen in a good light then the value of the brand outweighs the loss. I'm not remotely a business man though, so that concept might be more commonplace that I knew about.

One of my relatives became a millionaire by investing in amazon in the late 90s and it wasn't much, just a few thousand dollars i think.
To think that the dot com bubble would burst just the next year...
One of my relatives became a millionaire by investing in amazon in the late 90s and it wasn't much, just a few thousand dollars i think.
Say hi to him for me.
Say hi to him for me.
Crazy thing is that he's not an investor or anything and didn't actually do any research. Somebody in his local bank told him to buy stocks in amazon because it's going to be the next big thing and he was like 'aight, let's just buy some shares'.
Anyone else almost buy a bunch of bitcoin when it was barely more than a dollar, and then last minute decide to spend that money on something "productive" instead? :suicide:

That's a facetious statement, he knows, but is still baffles him at how much money Amazon can lose and still be fine after all this time.

[editline]29th November 2017[/editline] I don't wanna sound insensitive but Jeff Bezo's stare and laugh creeps me out. I wonder if he comes from the same planet as Zuckerberg.
Every time a video featuring bezos from the 90s or early 2000s comes up, I can't help but think of this.
He looks like a character that would sell you special guns you can't find anywhere else.
He looks like a character that would sell you special guns you can't find anywhere else.
sturmgewehr 44 in pristine condition
They didn't really talk about it but seeing the old Amazon front page reminded me that this was back when a lot of people didn't trust buying things online. Also Cyber Monday existing because Monday was when everybody got into work and had access to internet fast enough to shop on.
So when did Bezos become the Terminator?
billionaire in 3 years after starting amazon? damn that's quick
billionaire in 3 years after starting amazon? damn that's quick
He got in, at the right time. Plus he has the hindsight to not expand too quickly since the dot come bubble burst a year later.
