Persistent rumors about the next iPad sporting a 2048 x 1536-pixel display are looking more and more likely ahead of Wednesday's announcement. Especially now that Venture Beat is reporting that the new device will be dubbed the iPad HD. According to unnamed sources, the next iPad will lose the conventional numbering system and instead tout the devices Retina display. With a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, the new iPad should not only be able to destroy the 720P Android competition in terms of video quality but also offer full 1080P playback on a tablet. In fact, that would make it the only tablet on the market with that feature. To find out exactly what it's called, and exactly how it specs out as soon as is humanly possible, ride along with us on our iPad HD Liveblog.
Nice [editline]6th March 2012[/editline] inb4 android fanboys attempting to turn this against Apple somehow
Too bad it runs on a shit OS :B
wait what the fuck? 2048 x 1536? thats fucking huge how can you even consider that as a tablet? its a fucking monitor
So, pretty soon it will basically be a flat-panel screen that you carry around?
There's a fourth fucking model of it out already? Do they just change two things on it then release it for fifty quid more than the last one every few months or something?
It's cool and all but I can't find a reason as to why put this technology to use on a tablet. Why not make a higher def. TV with this? Costs? I'm pretty amused though, I still am with the 800x480 resolution on my phone, dem pixels are small.
Awesome. Even though I'm not a fan of Apple, competition is good
Awesome. Even though I'm not a fan of Apple, competition is good
Agreed. The iPad looked pretty nice when it was released, the Galaxy Tab looked even nicer. I would love to see something with this resolution playing videos in my hand.
There's a fourth fucking model of it out already? Do they just change two things on it then release it for fifty quid more than the last one every few months or something?
*Third iPad iPad 2 iPad HD I don't know where you got the fourth from.
Seems pretty pointless to me: it's fairly hard to get full HD content for your tablet, let alone this resolution. I'd also imagine it would take it's toll on the battery life and gaming performance. [editline]a[/editline]
Called it.
Nobody said anything about Android, calm down.

A normal 42" tv with a retina display (326 ppi) would have a resolution of ~12000x6500. You wouldn't even be able to benefit from that. Not to mention the costs.
Called it.
No one mentioned android, hell I don't even own a mobile.
*Third iPad iPad 2 iPad HD I don't know where you got the fourth from.
"The iPad 3 Is Dead, Long Live the iPad HD" kind of implies there's an ipad 3.

This is the news forum, not the rumor forum
wait what the fuck? 2048 x 1536? thats fucking huge how can you even consider that as a tablet? its a fucking monitor
yeah [editline].[/editline] :v: lol, surprisingly easy to receive lots of boxes
Crisp resolution. I wish there were monitors with that high of a PPI.
"The iPad 3 Is Dead, Long Live the iPad HD" kind of implies there's an ipad 3.
But was it ever manufactured Might as well say that there is 6 iPhones seeing as the iPhone 5 was promised from your logic.
So, pretty soon it will basically be a flat-panel screen that you carry around?
Like those rubber keyboards, you just roll out a 50-inch screen and hold it like a newspaper.
get this now folks else you wont be up to date with the apple generation!!!!! hd 4 lyf!!!!!

[editline]a[/editline] Nobody said anything about Android, calm down.
I own a iPhone 3G, 4 and a iPad 1 - the PPI is horrible when you compare the iPads and iPhone non-retina displays with the iPhone 4/4S.
Welp i will be buying this one, still got the iPad 1 and use i use it every day. Now i do hope its going to be the same price as the iPad 2 went in launch

Not to mention the costs.
A "Retina Display" means that the ppi is high enough that you can't see individual pixels at a comfortable to close distance. For the iPhone this happened to be around 330ppi as they determined the average optimal viewing distance was around 12 inches. For the iPad it would have to be in the 260ppi range as you hold it further away from your eyes. A 42 inch HDTV only needs to be around 50ppi for it to be classed as a "Retina Display" since you sit several feet away for optimal viewing. It's pure marketing spin.
And it'll cost more than a used car.
True that, "retina display" is just a fancy term that means nothing. Just like "next-gen" [editline]6th March 2012[/editline]
And it'll cost more than a used car.
Which is a bad comparison since you can find quite cheap used cars.
Oh god, not the rumor mill again
2048x1536? That's the same res I run my desktop at. Holy goddamn fuck that thing's going to be battery hungry. He's referring to nice ones that the average person would look at and go "Oooh, that's a nice car".
